UNITED STATES WILLIAM E. vANDEREGrGi, OF STURGEON BAY, WISQONSIN.
FISH-SHIPPING BOX.
Application filed April 11, 1925. Serial No. 22,413.
. To all whom it may concern.
Be it knownthat I, \VILLIAM E. ANDEREGG, a. citizen of the United States, residing at Sturgeon Bay, in the county of Door and State of \Visconsin, have invented certain -new and useful Improvements in Fish Shipping Boxes, of which the following is a specification, reference being had to the accompanying drawings.
This invention relates to fish shipping boxes andhas for an important object there provide a double container, the inner con tainer of which is so constructed that it may be readily subdivided into a plurality of compartments for the reception of dif ferent kinds of fish or for the separation of fish which are to be transported and which by its construction furthermore provides for spacing of the containers so that an insulating air chamber is provided about the inner container.
These and other objects I attain by the construction shown, in the accompanying drawings, wherein for the purpose of illustration is shown a preferred embodiment of my invention and wherein Figure 1 is a perspective of a fish shipping crate constructed in accordance with my invention showing the outer casing partially broken away;
Figure 2 is a vertical sectional view through the casings;
Figure 3 is a perspective view of the inner casing removed showing a transverse partition in position therein and indicating in dotted lines how a longitudinal partition can be placed therein; and
Figure 4 is a plan from the blank from which the top, bottom and side walls of the inner casings are formed.
Referring now more particularly to the drawings, the outer container consists simply of the ordinary wooden box employed in fish shipping having a bottom 10, side walls 11, ends 12 and a hinged top 13. The inner container constructed in accordance with my. invention, comprises a sheet 14 which is longitudinally corrugated,-as at 15, certain of the corrugations gccurring at the side "edges of the sheet, as indicated at 15.
The sheet is transversely scored, perforated or otherwise weakened upon lines 16 so that 1t may be readily folded upon these lines to produce a bottom 17, sides 18 and a cover 19," each bearing a portion of the corrugations 15 and 15. At each corrugation upon the lines 16, the sheet is slit, as indicated at 20,-so that the sheet may be folded at these corrugations. This sheetis folded to produce a rectangular tube, as more clearly shown in Figure 3 and at this time the corrugations 15 and 15 will unite to provide troughs for the reception of par titions 20 which may be inserted in the corrugations 15 or end walls22 which may be inserted in the corrugations 15*. The end walls22 are preferably provided with outstanding ribs formed by corrugating such walls as indicated at 23. It will be obvious that a device of this character being free from fastenings, hinges and the'like, may be very readily cleansed andprepared for installation. It will also be obvious that as many partitions may be provided as there are corrugations 15 and the inner containerprovided with as manyicompartments as are desired for segregating the contents thereof.
It will furthermore beobvious that the construction hereinbefore set forth is capable of a certain range of change and modification without materially departing from the spirit of my invention and I accordingly do not limit myself to such specific structure except as hereinafter claimed.
1. A fish shipping box comprising outer and inner containers, the inner container comprising a'sheetof metal longitudinally corrugated and transversely folded to pro duce the top, bottom and sides of said inner container, the corrugations of the inner container forming upon the outer face thereof outstanding ribs maintaining the inner container in spaced relation to the'outer container, and end walls for said inner container.
2. A fish shipping box comprising outer v 3. A fish shipping box comprising outer and inner containers, the inner container comprlslng a sheet of metal longltudlnally corrugated and transversely folded to produce the top, bottom and sides of said inner container, the corrugations of the inner container forming upon the outer face thereof outstanding ribs maintaining the inner container in spaced relation to the outer container. and end walls for said inner con tainer having their edges engaged in grooves formed by said corrugations upon the interior of the inner container, said end walls having aligned corrugations providing ribs upon their outer faces and grooves upon their inner faces.
4. A fish shipping box comprising outei and inner containers, the inner container comprisin a sheet of metal lon 'tudinally corrugate and transversely fold e d to produce the to bottom and sides of said inner container, t 1e corrugations of the inner container forming upon the outer face thereof outstanding ribs maintaining the inner container in'spaced relation to the outer container, end walls for said inner container having their edges engaged in grooves formed by said corrugations upon the inte rior of the inner container, said end walls having aligned corrugations providing ribs upon their outer faces and grooves upon their inner faces, the aligned corrugations of said side walls or end walls being adapted for the reception of the edges of partitions subdividing the interior of the inner container.
In testimony whereof I hereunto afiix my signature.
