Description

No.l57,655.
INVENTDB VIITNESSES ummm t NITED STATES WILLIAM @.TURNOCK, OF EVANSVILLE, INDIANA.
IMPROVEMENT IN HOSE-NOZZLES.
Specification forming part of Letters Patent No. 157.655, dated De :amber 8, 1874; application filed July 1l, 1874.
To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that l,W1LLrAM C. TURNocK, of Evansville, in the county of Vanderburg and State ot' Indiana, have invented a new and Improved Hose-Nozzle, of'which the following is a specilication:
The object ot' my invention is an improvement in that class of boze-nozzles in which the discharge of water is regulated by turning the outer section of the nozzle; and this object I attain by fitting the taper end of the out-er section, A, to a tapering opening or seat in the inner section or casing, B, and forming in the latter channels e e, With which openings f in the section A may be brought into communication by turning the latter section, all as shown in the longitudinal section, Figure l, and transverse sectional view, Fig. 2, ot' the accompanying drawing.
The extent to which the section A is turned will regulate the extent to which the openings e f coincide, and, consequently, the amount of water discharged, the tlow being entirely cut cti' on turning the section A to a suficientextent. As the tapering end of the outer section may be ground to lit its seat in the inner section a tight joint is secured without the use of any of the usual packings or gaskets, while the Wearing of the rubbing-surfaces is compensated for by moving inward the outer section. This adjustment is readily el'ected by a set-screw, b, passing into the section A through a disk, a, bearing against shoulders ot' the section B.
I do not claim, broadly, a nozzle formed in two sections, one of which may be turned to regulate the flow of Water; but
I claim- The combination, in a nozzle, of a section, A, having openings f and a tapering end, and a section, B, having a seat for receiving the tapering end ofthe outer section, and channels e, all constructed and operating as herein set forth.
