Application filed May 7,
To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that LOUIS WAGNER, a citizen of the United States, residing at 00dhaven, Long Island, in the county of Queens and cit-ate of New York, has invented certain new and useful Improvements in Display Boxes, of which the following is a specification.
This invent-ion relates to new and useful improvements in display boxes.
The primary object of my invention is to provide a display box especially adapted for receiving and displaying to the best advantage the several tools or parts used in a cake icing or ornamenting set.
A further object of my invention is to provide a box or receptacle of this character which is simple and economical in construction and highly practical in use.
With the foregoing and other objects in view that will appear as the nature of my invention is better understood, the same consists in the novel features of construction, combination and arrangement of parts illus- 5 trated in the drawings and more particularly pointed out in the appended claim.
In the accompanying drawings which are for illustrative purposes only and are therefore not drawn to scale, Figure 1 is a plan view illustrating the application of my invention, the lid or cover open.
Figure 2 is a vertical transverse section taken on line 2-2 of Figure 1, and
Figure 3 is a similar view taken on line 33 of Figure 1.
Referring to the drawings for a more particular description of my invention, and in which drawings like parts are designated by like reference characters throughout the several views, A designates the body of the box which is of preferably rectangular oblong form and B the top or lid hinged to the upper edge of the back wall 1 of the body.
In carrying out my invention, I provide the box with a supporting display rack or member 2. This rack is made from a single continuous strip of cardboard or other suitable material and comprises a hollow central trough-like portion 3 of approximately U-shape form in cross section, which extends the full length of the box and the side mem-- bers 4 of corresponding length which extend downwardly and outwardly from the upper edges of the side walls 5 of the central por- 1924. Serial No. 711,618.
tion 3 to the top face and outer side edges 6 of the bottom 7 of the box. The bottom member 8 of the central trough-like portion 3 of the display rack fits directly upon the upper face of the bottom 7 of the box and is glued or otherwise attachedthereto while the free edges 9 of the side members 4 of the rack are glued or otherwise secured along the inner bottom side corners 9. The upper edges of the side walls 4 of the central portion 3 of the display rack and those of the side members 5 are formed adjacent each end with a pair of transverse oppositely disposed notches or recesses 10 to receive the handle portions 11 of the ornamenting syringe C. The side members 5 of the dis play rack are also formed, each, with a series of longitudinally spaced integral lugs or tongues 12 which extend transversely of said side members and are formed by slitting the cardboard of which the side members are composed. These lugs or tongues are preferably tapered from their bottom to their upper ends and are disconnected with the side members except along the bottom ends. As a result, said lugs or tongues may be freely sprung out from their upper ends to receive and support the ornamenting tubes D which are of difierent shapes or designs to meet the requirements of an outfit of this character.
The inner face of the hinged top or lid B may be provided with a transverse strap 13 constructed from a single strip of cardboard fastened at opposite ends, as at 14., to the top to receive and support a book of in structions which goes with the outfit.
From the foregoing description taken in connection with the drawings, it will be readily appreciated that my display rack is of simple and economical construction and especially adapted to display to the best possible advantage the several tools or parts used in a cake ornamenting set or outfit.
Having described my invention what I claim as new and desire to secure by Letters Patent is z- A display box of the character specified comprising a body portion, a hinged lid, a supporting display rack mounted in the body, said rack comprising a central longitudinally disposed trough-like portion having perpendicular side walls and downwardly and outwardly inclined side members exerg tending from the upper edges of the perpendicular side Walls to the upper face and outer side edges of the bottom of the box and a series of longitudinally spaced integral supporting lugs or tongues extending along each side member and formed by slitting the material of which the side members are composed, the upper edges of the central trough-like portion and those of the side members being formed, at opposite ends, with transversely oppositely disposed notches, alternating with the adjacent supporting lugs or tongues.
In testimony whereof he aflixes his signature.
LOUIS WAGNER.
