Description
Sept. 8, 1925.
A. DELSIMONE FOUNTAIN MARKER med Nov. 16, 1925 INVENTOR A. 2
ATTORNEY Patented Sept. 8, 1925.
ANGELO DELS IMONE, F NEW YORK, N Y. i
1 UNTAIN ARKE i Application filed November is; 1923. se iain fvaoea,
To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that I, AN ELO DELsrMoNE, a
l citizen of the United States, and resident of New York city, in the county of Kings and fication.
State of New York, have invented certain new and useful lmprovements injFountam. Markers, of which the following isfa spec1- My invention relates to improvements in the class of devices adapted formarking bones, packages, barrels and thellike, and
has for its objects toprovide simple and? eflicient means to control the flow of mark-' ing fluid to the marking member, as well as to provide 'means' forreadily charging the barrel with marking fluid and to control the admission of air into the fountain or barrel of the device.
-My invention comprises novel details of improvement that will be more fully hereinafter set forth and then pointed out in the claim. I
Reference is to be had to the accompanying drawings forming a part hereof, where- Fig. 1 is a side elevation of my improved fountain marker; w
Fig. 2 illustrates the barrel or fountain of the device;
Fig. 3 is a detail of the fluid outlet head at one end of the barrel;
Fig. 4L is a detail of the outlet valve; Fig. 5 is a detail of theholder for the marking member;
Fig. 6 is a detail of the marking member; Fig. 7 is a detail of the plug at the filling end of the barrel; I V
Fig. 8 is a detail of the stopper for said plug;
Fig. 9 is a detail of the air' controlling valve, and Fig; 10 is a sectional detail. Similar numerals of reference indicate corresponding parts in the several views.
The barrel or fountain of the marker is indicated at 1, which may be in the form of a tube of suitable dimensions adapted to contain the marking fluid. At one end of the barrel or fountain is an outlet head 2, which may be of cast metal, and is shown provided with a rim portion 3 adapted to fit within the adjacent end of the barrel and which may be. soldered thereto, or secured in any other way. Said head is shown provided with a recess 4 at its inner end which communicates with a longitudinal passage 5" opening through the outer end of the neck 4? of theisa'id' head. ofc'neck 4; is shown having a recess at 6 to serve as'a pocket or well 'for marking fluid received from the jas'sage. 5 which opens.
into recess 6. Said passage and recess are opposed to a marking member 7 which may be of felt or other suitable absorbent ma? terial, for marking the fluid upon the ob ject' to be marked. Themember 7 is at-, tached to the neck' l by means of a holder The outer end shown'asa ferrule or sleeve 8to receive said member in' its bore and shown provided with" prongs '8 at one end to enter 'the 'member 7 to secure the same to the'holder. The opposite end of the holder or ferrule is adapted to fit upon an adjacent outer end of neck 4, and said holder may fit said neck snugly and friction tight so that it may be removed from the neck and replaced when a new marking member is to be used. The neck 4* is provided with a transverse bore 48 in which a valve or key 9 is fitted and which may be retained by a nut 10 on the threaded end of the valve or key, said valve or key being shown provided with a transverse bore 9 for controlling the flow of fluid through the passage 5 into the marking head.
At the opposite end of the fountain or bar 14 is provided with an extension having threads at16 to engage the threads 12 of the plug, whereby the stopper maybe detachably fitted-to said plug. The stopper'l lz is,
provided with a longitudinal bore 17 prefer surface 13 to make a tight fit. The stopper v ably having a relatively small outlet at 18. V
The bore 17 at the opposite end is provided with screw threads 19 to receive a screw 20. The outer end of bore 17 is provided with a tapering or cone-like surface 21 to receive a corresponding tapering or cone-like sur- I face 20 on screw 20, whereby a tight fit may be made to exclude air.
When my improved marker is to be charged with marking fluid the stopper 14 may be unscrewed from the plug 11, and the barrel or fountain may be charged through the bore in said plug. The stopper will then be replaced and the screw 20 will be fitted tight against the stopper to prevent the entrance of air. Then the marker is to be used the valve or key 9 will be adjusted to register its bore 9 with a passage 5 and the screw 20 will be removed or loosened to permit the entrance of air through bore 17 into the barrel. The marking fluid will pass through passage 5 into the marking member 7 and will accumulate in the recess or Well 6, whereby the absorbent member 7 will be supplied with marking fluid for marking barrels, boxes and other articles. \Vhen my improved fountain marker is not in use the valve or key 9 will be turned to stop the flow of fluid through passage 5 to member 7 and the screw 20 will be screwed in with its surface 2O tight against the surface 21 to exclude the entrance of air and prevent leakage of the fluid.
A cap 22 may be detachably applied upon the operating end of the marker to enclose the marking head, valve and associate parts.
My improved fountain marker is relatively cheap to manufacture, convenient in use and not liable to get out of order.
Changes may be made in the details of construction set forth, within the scope of the appended claim, without departing from the spirit of my invention.
Having now described my invention what I claim is A fountain marker comprising a barrel provided with a head having an outlet passage, a valve to control the passage, a mark-v ing member carried by said head, a filling plug at the opposite end of the barrel, a stopper cooperatingwith said plug, means to detachably retain the stopper in the plug, said plug having an air passage, and means to control said passage.
ANGELO DEL-SIMONE.
