The drawing Fig. 1 is a longitudinal sectional view of a fountain brush embodying my present invention.

My invention is embodied in a fountain brush comprising a hollow handle 1 which constitutes the ink reservoir and which is screwed on the threaded end `2 of a body member having a circumferential flange 3 .serving as an abutment for -theend of the handle reservoir. Ythe end 2 of the body member and opens into A lhopper 4 is formed in a tubular passage 5 extending entirely The lower end of the body member is provided with an enlargement 6 recessed in itsV lower side and provided with internal threads for receiving and supporting a ring 7 that binds the upper ends of the brush bristles 8. ,A cavity 9 is formed in the lower end of the body above the ends of the bristles and receives the ink discharged from the passage 5. A nozzle 1() is secured centrally within the mass` of bristles forming the brush and conducts the ink from the cavity 9 to the brush bristles as ywill be readily understood by reference to the drawing. A padv 11 of felt or other appropriate material is clamped between the endsv of thel bristles and the lower end ofthe supporting body and is provided with a central hole 12 permitting the ink to pass there-y through to the nozzle 10 for delivery to'the brush bristles. y v
The supporting body is formed with a valve chamber 13 at right angles to and intersecting the passage 5. A valve plug 14 is operatively mounted .within the valve chamber 13 and ris provided with a stem 15 extendingl outwardl beyond the body melnber and aving a nger .button 16 secured toits outer end `whic vis beyond the valve body and beyond the handle fountain 1 and naturally and the fore-finger in a position@ sothat it will conveniently b e engaged by of the operator when the device is in use.
The body member is formed with a threaded hole in which a barrel 17 is screwed, the same having a nut 18 formed on its onteiend for engagement by a wrench or the like in assembling and separating the parts.
The conical inner end 19 of the barrel 17 has a central hole through which the stem 15 of the valve extends and is iilled with packing material 20 pressed to position by a ring 21 within the barrel. The ring is held in place by a coil spring pansion .type encircling the valve stem 15 and having its inner end pressing againstl the ring 21 and its outer end pressing against the button member 16 within a cylindrical bore. The button member 16 has a stem, portion 23 extending into the barrel and guided thereby. i
A circumferential groove 24 is formed in the valve 14 and, when the valve is pressed inwardly by engagement of the linger of the operator with the valve operating button 16, said groove is broughtinto registration with the passage 5 to permit ink to flow through said passage. to the brush. Obviously the amount of ink flowing through the passage 5 to the brush may be optionally varied by operation of the valve.
