IMPROVEMENT IN PENS.

Specification forming part of Letters Patent No. 155,006, dated September 15, 1874; application filed January 27, 1874.

To all whom it may concern:

Be it known that I, RICHARD H. CHINN, of the city of Washington, District of Columbia, have invented an Improvement in Writing- Pens, that I style the Impr'oved Reversible Pen and do hereby declare the following to be an exact description thereof, reference be ing had to the accompanying drawing and to the letters of reference marked thereon, making a part of this specification, in which- Figure 1 represents the side view of the pen, and Fig. 2 a top view of the same, made of any material.

The nature of my invention consistsin the curve, notch, bend, indenture, crook, or inflection across the points of the pen, and along the points of the front of the pen the shape is either convex or flat, and along the reverse side or back of the points of the pen the shape is concave or hollow, forming a groove, gutter, channel, or cavity.

The object of constructing a pen of this shape and form is, that the back of the pen may also be used for writing, as well as the front, the ink flowing freely and uniformly without regard to the-pressure on the pen when writing on the back, and the front of the pen is improved for writing, as the body of the ink is held back from the extreme points by the bend or curve across the points, and feeds through from the back of the pen, where it is conductedto the points along the curve or gutter on the back of the 'pen, and the flow of the ink is regulated thereby as the ink passes through the slit of the pen, which operates as a feeder, and allows the ink to flow as pressure is applied when writing on the front of the pen, giving finer lines by not depositing so much ink as the ordinary pen when not required, and securing a more regular quantity of ink on coarse or shaded lines,

when writing. The back of the pen is'well fitted and well adapted to poor peninen, and all who wish the quill qualities in a pen. Both the front and the back of the pen will be used by ordinary penmen and chirographers.

A is the body of the pen, shaped to suit any handle desired. B is the curve or bend across the..points of the pen, as shown in Fig. l. O is the curve or gutter along the back of the points of the pen, as shown in Fig. 3.

What I claim as my invention, and desire to secure by Letters Patent, is

A writingpen provided with the curve, bend, or indenture B across the points, and the gutter, concave, or groove C, extending along the back of the points of the pen, constructed and operating as herein described, and for the purposes set forth.
