Description
F. C. BARTLOMIE CONDIMENT HOLDER Filed June 1924 INVENTOR ATTORNEY WITNESS:
Patented Jan. 13, 1925.
FRANK G. BARTLOMIE, OF NEWTON UPPER FALLS, MASSACHUSETTS.
CONDIMENT HOLDER.
Application filed dune 2,
To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that I, FRANK C. BART- LOMIE, 44 Highland Ave, Newton Upper Falls, Mass, acitizen of the United States, residing at .Newton Upper Falls, in the county of Middlesex and State of Massachusetts, have invented new and useful Improvements in Condiment Holders, of which the following is'a specification.
My present invention pertains to condiment holders of the combination type and it consists in the peculiar and advantageous condiment holder hereinafter described and claimed.
In the accompanying drawings, forming part of this specification Figure 1 is an elevation of my novel condiment holder.
Figure 2 is an enlarged plan view of the same, partly in section.
Figure 3 is a diametrical holder.
Figure 4 is a section taken at right ansection of the gles to Figure 3 and in the plane indicated by the line 4-4 of Figure 3.
Similar numerals of reference designate corresponding parts in all of the views of the drawings.
The body 1 of my novel condiment holder is preferably formed in one piece of glass or other appropriate material and is provided'with a diametrical partition 2 which extends above the major portion of the body and divides the same into two compartments 3 and 4, for the reception of pepper and salt, respectively. At its upper end the body 1 is provided on its major portion with a rib 5, threaded as designated by 6.
Mounted on the threaded rib 5 of the body 1 is a threaded ring 7 on the upper edge of which is an inwardly directed annular flange 8. This flange 8 is utilized to clamp and hold against the upper end of the body 1 and outwardly directed flange 9 on an annulus 10, the said annulus having at its upper edge an exterior bead 11.
Arranged over the annuluslO is a stationary cap member 12, having apertures 13 for the passage of pepper and -apertures 14 for the passage of salt. The said cap member 12 is grooved interiorly at 15 to receive the bead 11 and retain the cap member 12 on the annulus 10, and the said cap member 12 is also provided with a marginal portion 16 which bears on the flange 8 of the ring 7. It will also be noticed by ref- 1924. Serial No. 717,440.
erence to Figure 4 that the member 12 is provided'with an exterior head 17. This bead 17 serves to hold on the cap member 12 a turn cap 18 on which is a central finger piece 19. The turn member 18 has apertures 13 apertures 14 for the passage of salt. It will also be noticed by reference to Figure 2 that the turn member 18 has an outwardly deflected portion 20 forming a groove while the cap member 12 has a pin 21 disposed in the said groove 20 so as to limit the turnmg movements of the turn member 18. In this connection, it will be noticed that the cap member 12 is provided at 22 with an abutment which engages the partition wall 2 of the body 1, and thereby precludes turning of the cap member 12 about its axis.
It will be apparent from the foregoing that by adjusting the turn cap 18, the holder may be adapted to discharge either salt or pepper as the user desires; and it will also be apparent that the construction is simple and inexpensive and is well adapted to withstand the usage to which devices of corresponding character are ordinarily subjected.
Having described my invention, what I claim and desire to secure by Letters-Patent, is
A condiment holder comprising a body having a major portion and a threaded rib at the upper end thereof and also having a partition extending above said upper end, a ring threaded on said rib and having an inwardly directed annular flange, an annulus having a base flange disposed under said flange of the ring and also having an exterior head at its upper end, a cap member having a groove receiving said bead and also having an exterior bead and a flange bearing on the flange of the ring, said cap member having also an abutment bearing against one side of said partion wall, and being provided with apertures of different sizes, and being further provided with a radial projection, and a turn cap provided with apertures of different sizes and a finger piece, and also provided with a marginal flange receiving the bead of the cap member, and a groove receiving the said radial projection of the cap member whereby rotation of the turn member is limited by the cap member.
In testimony whereof I aflix my signature.
FRANK C. BARTLOMIE.
