IMPROVEMENT IN BALE-TIES.

Specilication forming part of Letters Patent No. l5 [,191 dated May 2G, 1874 application filed October 6, 1873.

To all whom 'it may concern.-

Be it known that I, AUGUSTUS SAMUEL ARMSTRONG, of the city of New Orleans, parish of Orleans and State of Louisiana, have invented a certain new and useful Impro vein ent in Bale-Ties; and I do hereby declare thefollowing to be a full, clear, and correct description of the same, reference being had to the annexed drawing making part ot' this specifica! tion.

'lhe nature of my invention consists in constructing a bale-tie with laps, as will herein! sponding parts.

A is a tie-plate, constructed with an elongated rectangular opening, B, and projecting ends O C', which are to be folded partly over the body of the plate, leaving spaces a a between the same for the reception of the cxtreme ends of the band, as shown. The mode of applying` my said invention is to first secure one end of the band to the tieplate by bending it into an oblate hook, the end of which is passed through the opening B and into the recess a, embracing within its folded end one side of the tie-plate, as plainly shown at D. The opposite end of the baud, being brought round the bale, is passed through the openin g B, and, after pulling in the slack, is bent back under the plate and into the recess a', where it is securely held by means of the lip O.

Having described my invention, what I dcsire to secure by Letters Patent is 1. A bale-tie constructed with a slot, B, and lapped ends O C', as described.

2. In combination with the folded ends of I bale-bands, a slotted bale-tie with lapped ends,

as and for the purpose specified.
