Be it known that 1, Lotus Tame, a citizen of the United States, and a resident of New York, borou h of Manhattan, in the 5 county of New Yor and State of New York, have made and invented certain new and useful Improvements in Cigarette Cases, of.

which the followin is a specification.

My invention re ates to cigarette holders and particularly to that class wherein as the lid of the container is opened a tray upon which the cigarettes restis raised so as to render the c1garettes easily accessible and readily withdrawn.

The object of my invention is to provide a container or receptacle for cigarettes of the above-mentioned character and having 'improved means for limiting the extent to which the lid may open and to accomplish the aforementioned ends in a manner so as to prevent any danger or likelihood of the lid being torn or broken from the body of the receptacle. The container is preferably formed of precious metal such as gold and of light construction throughout, so it is of prime importance that the parts he so arran d as to prevent undue stresses from being rou ht to bear thereon.

With the foregoing and other objects in view, my invention consists in the improved cigarette holder illustrated in the accompanying drawings and hereinafter described and claimed, and in such variations andv is accordingly provided with thin walls and open position and illustrated in section and Figure 5 is a fragmental view in side section of a modified form of latch or cover holder.

Referring specifically to the several views,

-wherein similar reference numerals designate corresponding parts throughout, my improved container comprises the body portion 10 of the approximate size so as to receive a po ular package of cigarettes therein, prefera ly of that ty e of package wherein twenty are wrapped in a paper binder. The body 10 of the container or receptacle is provided with a cover 11 attached thereto by the hinge 12, there being a suitable spring 13 contained within the hinge so as to constantl tend to open the cover into the position i lustrated in Fi re 3. The cover 11 includes the downwar y extending side walls 14, which are adapted to pass down over and embrace the offset rim 15 with which the body of the receptacle is provided so as to thereby align the side walls of the cover and the walls 0 the receptacle body so as to resent a smooth and pleasing appearance w en the cover is closed, the rim 15 being provided with a suitable opening 16 into which is an adapted to snap the lug 17 so as to hold the cover in a closed position against the action of the spring 13.. In order to project the package of cigarettes above the top of the container, as as the lid is opened it provide a tray 18 upon which the cigarettes rest and upwardly from which projectthe ears 19. To the ears 19 are hingedly connected the two links 20, which in turn are connected to 1 the rigid arms 21 carried b the cover. It is to be particularly noted t at the arms 21 are secured to the cover in such position as to bring the links 20, as the cover is opened, into contact with the bevelled walls 22 with 1 which the body of the receptacle is provided.- This location of the arms 21 and links 20 provides that as the front wall of the container is pressed inwardly, relievin the fastener 1617, the cover 11 under t e in no resisted by the resiliency of they links 20, as

such sliding will naturally cause a flexing of both the arms 21 and the links 20. This feature is particularly important, inasmuch as the entire mechanism is formed of precious metal and accordingly must be made as light as possible.

A modified form of fastener has been disclosed in Figure 5, wherein a spring latch 23 is soldered or in other ways fastened to the inner surface of the front wall as at 24 and is provided at its upper end with the tongue 25 which is adapted to extend through and 'engageva boss 26 formed upon the inner surface of the cover 11. A finger-engageable knob'2? is carried by the latch 23 and projects through an opening 28 in the front Wall of the container, so that as the knob 2'? is pressed inwardly the latch will be disengaged and the memes cover will fly open,'raising the tray and cigarettes, as previously described, but the lid will come to a gradual stop without undue shock, as previously explained.

Having thus described and explained my invention, 1 claim and desire to secure by Letters Patent:

A container comprising a body with bevelled corners, a cover hingedly secured to said body, arms rigidly carried by said cover, a tray contained within said receptacle and located adjacent the bottom wall thereof, links pivotally connected to said tray and to said arms, said links adapted to contact with th bevelled edges of the body of the receptacle and bring the cover to a gradual stop as it approaches its open position, resilient means tending to move said cover to its open position, and a fastener carried by said cover and the body of the receptacle and holding said lid in a 'closed position.
