UNITED STATES- PATENT OFFICE.
WENDELL WRIGHT, or rnrnnrorn, new YORK.
IMPROVEMENT IN ROCKERS FO R CRADLES, &c.
Specification forming part of Letters Patent No. 149,178, dated March 31, 1874; application filed August 16, 1873. I
'1.) all whom it may concern 820., of which the following is a specification:
The object of this invention is to convert at will a rocking cradle or chair into a standing crib or standing chair; and the invention consists in adjustable feet attached to the rocker, and operating substantially as hereinafter described.
In the drawing, Figure 1 is an end elevation of a cradle, showing the adjustable feet arranged as when in use. Fig. 2 is an end view, showing the feet turned in or from the rock-' ing surface.
Similar letters of reference indicate, corresponding parts.
A is the cradle end. B is the rocker. In the rocker two vertical mortises are made, (J O, in which mortises are pivoted the two adjustable feet D 1). When the rocker is in use the feet are turned inward, as seen in Fig. 2, so that they do not in any manner interfere with the rocker. When it is desired to have the cradle stand firm, the feet are turned down, as seen in Fig. 1. The ends of these feet are cut to an angle of about fortyfive degrees, and the feet stand at about that angle with a vertical line. The long edges of the feet bear against the outer ends of the mortises. The weight or movement of the crib has, therefore, no tendency to displace the feet, but rather to keep them spread, and in the position seen in Fig. 1. When not required, the cradle is turned up and the feet are pushed into their mortises, as seen in Fig. 2. The rocking-cradleis, therefore, turned into a standing crib or cradle with the greatest ease, and in a moments time.
This improvement may be applied to the rockers of chairs as well as to those of cradles. Its advantages must be obvious to all.
The feet may be pivoted to the side of the rockers and bear against pins or any other stop attached to the rocker; but I prefer the arrangement shown.
Having thus described my invention, I claim as new and desire to secure by Letters Patent- The combination of adjustable feet D with the rockers O of a cradle or chair, operating as specified.
WENDELL WRIGHT.
