UNITED: stares.-
WILLIAM A. mums, or m, moment.
FOUNTAIN-PEN ACCESSORY.
Application filed April 28, 1922. Serial No. 5579M To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that 1, WILLIAM A. HAn'rmNn, a citizen of the United States, residing at Midland, in the county of Midland and State a of Michigan, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in F ountain-Fen Accessories, of which the following is a specification.
The present invention relates to a foun- 1o tain pen accessory having for its principal object to combine a pen ca with a blotter in a compact manner and so t at the devlce will be durable yet light in structure.
Another important object of the invention 15 is to provide a device of this nature capable of being used with any ordinary pen and especially a fountain pen which may be manufactured at a comparatively low cost, which will be simple in construction, reliable in 20 operation, and well adapted to the purpose for which it is designed.
With the above and numerous other objects in view as will appear as the description progresses, the invention resides in the as novel arrangement and construction of parts as will be hereinafter more fully described and claimed.
ln the drawing Figure 1 is an elevation of a device em- 30 bodymg my invention,
Figure 2 is a longitudinal section therethrough,
Figure 3 is a. similar view taken substantially on the line 3-3 of Figure 2 looking as in the direction of the arrow,
Figure t is a fragmentary elevation of the device showing the same in an open position,
Figure 5 is a transverse section taken substantially on the line 5--5 of Figure 2 look to in in the direction of the arrow,
Figure 6 is a fragmentary longitudinal section showing the device in an open position Figure 7 is a detailed section through the ca hinged portion of the device, and
Figure 8 is a fragmentary longitudinal section showing a modified form of the device in an open position.
Referring to the drawing in detail it will so be seen that the cap 1 is provided with a pen receiving compartment 2 and the accessory compartment 3 which is provided with a side opening a co-operating with which is the hinged closure 5. As shown'to advantage in Figure 4, the door 5 is provided at one end with a pair of spaced ears 7 adapted to receive the pin 8 which extends throu h the ear 9 of the leaf 10 which is embedded in the closed end of the cap 1 and suitably riveted or otherwise held: in position and is covered by a strip 19. The other end of the door 5 is provi d with an extension 12 having the beveled end 13 and this extension is adapted to be received in the groove 14 also having a beveled end 15 so that when the door is in a closed position it may be readily opened by engaging the finger nail or some instrument with the end of the extension 12 and moving the door to an open position so that it extends in substantial alignment with the cap 1.
In the first modification of the invention till as is disclosed in Figures 1 to 7 inclusive the accessory is in the form of a rotary blotter. A ll-shape bracket 17 is mounted on the inside of the door 5 and the rotary blotter 18.
is journalled between the legs thereof so that when the door 5 is clomd the rotary blotter 18 will be situated within the compartment 3.
in the modification shown in Figure 8 a block 19 is fixed to the inside of the door 5 and a blotter 20 in the form of a strip is placed thereon. This block 19 and its strip 20 are receivable in the compartment 3 when the closure 5 is closed.
lhe construction of my invention which I have just described with some degree of particularity and shown in the accompanying drawings, has merely been 'ven b way of example and it is to be unddrstoo that numerous changes may be restorted to both in the form, material, and in the combination and arrangement of parts may be resorted to without departing from the spirit of the invention as hereinafter claimed.
Having thus l-#05 my invention what 1 claim as new is 1. A pen cap of the class described pro vided with a compartment having an opening leading thereto, a hinged closure for said lid Mill) compartment, said closure provided with an i exten s ibn, a. grbove in the ex tefi or'ef the ti elite-Heidi ilev ving'ingpart, and the bocly 0 for receiving said extension in the manner '0f the pen .eap provided with a groove for and for the purpose specified. ,1 eceiving se'idexten'sion.
' 2. In a pen cap of the class' described, a. .Iiyte'stimoxi ,whereof I aifix my signature compartment divided longitudinally into iiiprejsencefdftwe Witnesses.
