ANDY JANOVSKY, or iaaooKLYn, ivnw'roair," Assionon TO srrerrno & ARONSON, Inc, on NEW YORK, n. Y., a CORPORATION or NEW YOB.K.
ADJUSTABLE ELECTRIC-LAM Application filed May 13,
To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that I, ANDY JANOVSKY, a citizen of the United States, residing in Brooklyn, county of Kings, and State of New York, have invented a certain new and useful Improvement in Adjustable Electric Lamp Supports for Candle Tubes, of which the following is a specification.
My invention relates to that class of devices which are designed to be used inside of the imitation'candle so commonly used on chandelier and side brackets. It is well known that these imitation candles are of various lengths. It is therefore necessary to provide some means of adjustment for supporting the electric lamp socket at the top of the candle. Various devices of this kind are in use but all of them with which I am familiar require the use of tools to make the adjustment.
My invention has for its object to provide an automatic device for locking the parts in the desired position without the use of tools.
My means of accomplishing the foregoing objects may be more readily understood by having reference to the accompanying drawings which are hereunto annexed and are a part of the specification in which Fig. 1 is a rear elevation of my improvement.
Fig. 2 is a side elevation of the same, part of the device being shown in section for the sake of clearness. I
Figs. 3 and 4c are similar views of the parts thus assembled.
Fig. 5 is a top view of the upper member.
Fig. 6 is a rear View of the upper member.
Figs. 7, 8 and 9 are detail views of the lower member.
Similar reference numerals refer to similar parts throughout the entire description.
As shown in the drawings the device is formed in two parts 10 and 11. The upper part 10 is provided with two inturned edges 12 and 13 which form a channel as clearly seen in Fig. 5. The upper end of the part 10 is bent inwardly and has a threaded nipple limounted therein, the same being secured in position by means of a nut 15 or SUTPOBT FOE CANDLE TUBES.
1922. Serial Il'o. 560,529.
The nipple is adapted to fit the thread on the standard electric light socket. A plurality of teeth or serrations 16 are punched in the center of the upper member 10. The lower member is formed like a channel with two outwardly flaring flanges 17 and 18 which are fitted to and coincide with the inside of the flanges 12 and 13 on the upper member 10. The recessed portion 19 is formed to permit the mounting of a flat spring 20 which is secured to the wall of the member 11 by means of a rivet 21 or any other suitable or convenient means of fastening may be employed if desired. The spring 20 bends outwardly and is provided with a rounded point 22 which is adapted to enter the spaces intermediate the teeth or serrations 16 on the member 10. The bottom of the member 11 is inturned and is provided with an internally threaded bushing 23 which is threaded to fit the standard nipple on the arm of the chandelier or side bracket (not shown).
The operation of the device is as follows: The flanges 17 and 18 are inserted inside of the flanges 12 and 13 and this brings the point 22 of the spring 20 in engagement with the teeth 16. By reason of the channel 19 the spring is permitted to yield and the point 22 slides over the teeth until the device is in the desired position when the tension of the spring will hold the two parts securely together. It will be apparent from the foregoing description that all it is necessary to do is to push the two parts together or pull them apart to obtain any desired length, the adjustment being only limited by the length of the two parts 10 and 11 and that no tools of any kind are required to make this adjustment.
Having described my invention What I regard as new and desire to secure by Letters Patent is:
1. An adjust. ble electric lamp support for candle tubes comprising two members, one of which is provided with inturned longitudinal flanges, the other having a channel and outturned flanges which fit inside the inturned flanges, a plurality of serrations on a spring fastened in the chan- (all nel having a point on it Which engages said serrations.
2. An adjustable electric lamp support for candle tubes comprising two members, one 01" which is provided with inturned longitudinal flanges, the other having a channel and outturned flanges which fit inside the inturned flanges, a plurality of serrations on ANDY J ANOVSKY.
