To all whom t may concern.'
Be` itlinown that l, Mans lil. lllnnsnrt, a citizen ot the United litates, residing` at Colton,in the county of San Bernardino and Stateof California, have invented new and `usei'ul linprovernents in Collapsible Camp Tables, ci which the following is a specili- 1cation.
` Thisinvention relates to camping' equipment and more. particularly to a collapsible camp table and case.
It is an object of the present invention to providea camp table and case o'tl simple and substantial construction and embodying a plurality of separablewlfoldable top and leg ornfiinp;` elements, and to provide a case about and upon which the collapsed elements niay be paclred and Wrapped. llt is another object to provide a collapsible caniping outfit in which the various elements are ot inexpensive and light form ott construetion so as to enable the ready carrying; of the saine.
Other objects and advantages will be made manifest in the followingspecification of an` embodiment of the invention illustrated in theaccompanying drawings, wherein-d Figurel is a` perspective oit the collapsed, packed device. Fig. 2 is a section and end elevation oi the device.
Fig. dis a sectional View showing in detail a leg and brace fastening; means.
Fig. ,4 isa perspective showing; the opening` of the tabletop-forming, ioldable ele- `Inent of the device. i'
Fig fisa plan .of ajlragrnent ol! one ot the cross pieces shovvingry an underneath tace thereof with allege; socket mounted therein.
Fig @lis a sectional detailshovving the inode of attaching` a leg` to the lee; socket ot a cross piece.
Fig. 7 `shovvs a perspective lepjand brace elements detached.,`
Fin-8 is aperspective` shoWinn;` the setup table stand with the `collaijisible top in. torni to be placed Yupon the `table stand.
Figf) is a perspective ol the lunch. bott.V
TheV present eaten init inclp e ing element consisting of a plurality of lonpgitudinally extending' slat-lil e sections 2 arfastening devices, suchas snap sockets `3b.
lreiterably, the Ineetinp; edges ot the slats 2 forming the top are hingedly connected as by simple hinges 4t, and the slats are adapted toibe folded as to each other to torna a rectangular wrapper or box, as is clearly shovvn in section in lling'. 2, and in which condition the top flange 3a isadapted to be fastened to the contiguous buttons 3C. p
rlhe toldable shell or cover forming top is adapted to be Wrapped `about a case or lunch box which is shovvn in Fig. 9 as including alight framework 5 of suitable dimensions and which ina-y have `tabric or other` light side and end Walls (Sand a pli able cover sheet 7. This lunch bon is adapted to be placed upon one oi? the slats oft the topwwhich will servetheretore as a bottom, and to position the upright side Walls torined `by the slats 2, these` are preferably provided with dowel pin holes. l() to receive dowel pins 1l which are provided in end panels `or blocks l2 which, preferably, are provided Withliandles 13. It will be seen `that the' end panels l2 are therefore adapt ed to be locked bythe doWel pins inregister with the contiguous sections 2 oli the top and `form a receptacle or shell in which the lunch box structure, above mentioned, may be inelosed.
'lo` utilize the flexible table top for table purposes, l provide a table `stand which consists or' a pair olf cross pieces 15 of suitable length and which are provided in top faces with dotvel pins 16 to enter respective dovvel pinapertures provid-ed in the table top element l 2. The i cross pieces l5 are adapted to be snugly packedwith the doivel pins oit oneventeringwdoivel pin holes l? ot the-stijlen 'these crosspiecee areadapt ed to be held in spaced parallel relation upon the upper ends of legs of which there is a pair at each end of the stand, and each pair of legs is adapted to be folded from a crossing to` a parallel position on respective pivot bolts 21 passing through the meeting portions of each leg 2O of a pair; the inner ends of thebolts being provided with wing nuts22which .mayl be `readily run off the bolts to provide for application ofa longitudinal brace 23, which has adjacent each end Va laterally projecting tongue 24 perforated to pass over the inwardly projecting end of the contiguous pivot bolt 21 after iwhich the wing nuts `are adapted to be setup.
The cross pieces 15 areprovided with eyes 15a on their inner edges to receive hooks provided on ends of brace links 25 which are pivotedV at`26 to the longitudinal brace 23. Furtherbracing means consists of leg sections 28 which are providedwith hinges 29 at upper ends. :These hinges 29 are mounted on'the pivot bolts 21; the' hinges permitting the leg sections 28 to be folded down flatwise upon contiguous main legs 20 when the table stand is knocked down. The hinge y leaf 29a mounted on its bolt 21 is held from separation as by a clamp nut 30 provided on the. bolt. .Y
v When the stand has been erected as is shown in Fig. 8, the supplementary leg sections 28 are adapted to be braced in inwardly I extended oblique position as by brace hooks 32which are pivotally connected to the leg sections 28 and are adapted to be hookedfto the-lower ends 'of the main legs 20.
Q To facilitate the substantial attachment of `the upper ends of the legs 20 to the cross piecesy 15, these latter are provided with recesses 15b in their lower faces, andat one end of eachof the recesses there is secured a suitable keeper or keyhole plate 35 of a length suiiiciently less than the length of the recess 15b to permit the application of the end of a leg 2O into the recess with a screw head 20,in a position to be pushedinto a keyhole 35a in the plate 35, then when the head 20a is shifted longitudinally of the keyhole plate it passes into the narrower part of the keyhole 85a and the parts are thus firmly interlocked. The angularY relation of the leg end 20 to the cross piece 15 is such that pressure down on the cross `piece tendsto spread the upper ends of the legs 20 and insure the efficient locking of the parts Vand prevent their accidental separation under pressure on the applied table top 2.
A. further feature ofthe invention consists in providingmeans for the storage and A'arrangement of small utensils, and such provision is shown as consistin ofelastic straps. 38 secured to the inside aces of the end panels 12, and under which straps there may be placed spoons, knives, forks and other culinary utensils, as may be desired. The end panels 12 are shown as spaced sufficiently behind the ends of the lunch box 5 to provide for such introduction of articles as may be desired to be held by the elastic retainers 88.
From the above it will be seen that I have provided a camp kit that may be coinpactly assembled in knock-down condition, and which can be readily unfolded and set up for use and made rigid and stable.
The box or case shown in Fig. 9 is preferably of collapsible form thus enabling the top frame to be folded down close to the bottom 51of the box, the fabric side walls 6 providing for this collapsing relatively. To hold the frame 5 in spaced box forming position, corner legs 5b are hingedly connected as at 5c to the bottom of the box, and these legs are, therefore, adapted to be swung downwardly and inwardly over the bottom 5a after which the top frame 5 can be brought down in collapsed position.
Further embodiment, modifications and changes may be resorted to within the spirit of the invention as here claimed.
What is claimed is:
l. YA collapsible camp table comprising, in combination, a table top forming element, and a collapsible table stand, said stand including cross pieces, and dowel means for securing the top element and the cross pieces, said dowel means including dowel pins in the cross pieces, each cross piece having dowel pin holes so that the cross pieces may be placed face to face with the dowel pins of each entering the other piece.
2. In a collapsible camp table, a table stand consist-ing of sets of pivotally connected legs, cross pieces attachable to the top ends of the legs when they are in diverging positions, a longitudinal brace for connecting the sets of legs, and supplementary bracing leg sections.
3. Inv a collapsible camp table, a table stand consisting of sets of pivotally connected legs, cross pieces attachnble to the top' ends of the legs when they are in diverging positions, a longitudinal brace for connecting the sets of legs, and supplementaryl bracing leg sections, the leg sections having pivot bolts to which the bracing leg sections are connected, said bracing leg sec tions being foldable into parallel position With the collapsed legs.
5. In a collapsible camp table, a table stand consisting of sets of pivotally connected legs, cross pieces attaehable to the top ends of the legs When they are in di verging positions, a longitudinal brace for connecting the Sets of legs, and supplementary bracing leg sections, the pivotal conneetion of the legs consisting of pivot bolts, said longitudinal brace being1 conneetible to said bolts.
In testimony whereof l have signed my name to this speeilieation.
. M. M. LARSEN.
