UNITED STATES ATENT FFIGE.
EDWARD H. ALDRICH, OF HUDSON, MICHIGAN.
IMPROVEMENT IN CURTAIN-FIXTURES.
Specification forming part of Letters Patent No. 147,737, dated February 24,1874; application filed January 28, 1874.
To all whom it may concern Be it known that I, EDWARD H. ALDRIGH, of Hudson, in the county of Lenawee and in the State of Michigan, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Curtain- Fixtures; and do hereby declare that the following is a full, clear, and exact description thereof, reference being had to the accompanying drawings, and to the letters of reference marked thereon, making a part of this specication.
rIhe nature of my invention consists in the construction and arrangement of a curtainiixture attached to the upper sash of a window, as will be hereinafter more fully set forth.
In order to enable others skilled in the art to which my invention appertains to make and use the same, I will now proceed to describe its construction and operation, referring to the annexed drawing, in which- Figure l is a perspective view of a window frame and sash with my curtain-fixture applied thereto. Figs. 2 and 3 show the xtures detached.
A represents a window-frame, and B the uppersash in thesame. On the front of the sash B, at each side, near the upper end, is attached a bracket, C, which extends forward to the front of the frame, and then outward, forward, and upward. In the upper ends of the brackets C C are placed the journals of the curtain-roller D. co a are these journals. Against the end of the journal c presses a spring, b, which is attached to the bracket C,
Y and whereby the roller is moved endwise, so
that a pin, t', projecting from the other end of the roller will catch on the bracket C', and prevent the curtain from unwinding. 0n the outside of the bracket C is pivoted a lever, G,
the upper end of which has an inclined or twisted projection, h, extending toward the rear against the end of the journal a. d represents a single cord, by which the curtain is operated, said cord being attached to the roller d, and passes through an ear, e, at the lower from or rolled up on the roller. As soon as theV pressure on the lever by the cord is removed,
the spring b throws the roller back in its place again, so that the pin z' will stop the revolution of the roller.
Having thus fully described my invention, what I claim as new, and desire to secure by Letters Patent, isv 1. The combination, with the curtainrol1er D, with its journals a a', and brackets C C', of the spring b and pin t', substantially as and for the purposes herein set forth.
2. The combination, with the roller D, jour.- nals a c', brackets C C', spring b, and pin c', of the lever G, pivoted on the bracket Gf, and provided with the twisted projection h, all substantially as and for the purposes herein set forth.
In .testimony that I claim the foregoing I have hereunto set my hand this 12th (lay of January, 1874.
EDWARD H. ALDRICH.
