Be it known that I, GEORGE citizen of the United States of siding atIthaca, in the county of Tompkins and State of N ewYork, have invented certain new and useful' Improvements in Locks,

This invention relates to certain new and useful improvements in locks, and has particular reference to a lock embodying a plurality of tumbler pins that are adapted to be shifted to certain positions to permit operation or opening of the loc The primary object of the inventionref sides in the provision of a lock wherein a casing supporting a rotatable barrel, has a plurality of tensioned plunger pins that yare adapted to be projected into the openings formed in said barrel to hold the barrel and locked bolt carried thereby against movement, separate tumbler pins slidably mounted in the openings in said barrel adapted to be operated for shifting the tumbler pins carried by the casing to permit rotation of the barrel andcausing the tumbler -pins carried by the casing to ride upon the periph# ery of said barrel.
With the above general objects in view and others that will appear as the nature of the invention is better understood,l the same consists of the novel form, combination and arrangement ofparts hereinafter more fully described, shown in the accompanying drawing and claimed.V

Referring more in detail to the accom'- panying drawing, the lock'embodies a casing formed of end walls l and 2 connected by a' cylindrical casingy 3 and longitudinal brace bars 4l positioned above thecasing 3 as clearly shownin Figs/1, 4 and 5, the ex'- treme upper ends o-f the walls l andj2 being connected by a rib 6. v
A barrel- 7, is 'rotatably disposed within thel cylindrical casing 3, one end thereof being shouldered as at 7a for engagement with a corresponding shoulder "formed on' the adjacent end wall 2, as vshown in F igs.'6 and 7 while the opposite end of thebarrel eX-y tends beyond the casing 3 and receives a collar 8 retained thereon by a set screw 9 to' present axial mo-vement of the barrel within the casing, As shown by dotted lines, a locking bolt l0 is eccentricallypivoted to theprojecting end of the barrel and of the pins and are retained 'in the outer ends of the openings 11 by the strip bar 1li countersunk within the upper edge oi the rib 6 and retained so positioned by the faswhen 'the .itrom the end wall' 18' of said tening devices 15. The barrel' 7 is similarly i provided with spaced alined openings 11a thatare' adapted to register with the ,openings 11-in the' casing rib while said' open- 11a Afreely''support sliding tumbler pins 1 2i`. It will be note'dthat the tumbler pins 12'are` of equal lengths, as shown in Figll7 while the tumbler pins 12a carried byy the rotatable barrel 7 are of unequal lengths for purposes presently to appear. To support the tumbler pins 12 and 12a barrel 7 isv in a locked position relative' to the' cylindrical' casingy 8, an aiially disposed rod 16 positioned in the eccentric bore 17 of, the' barrel 7, projects c l bore and terminates at a point'inwardly ci the key hole openinO 19in the' shouldered end of the barrel 7 the tumbler pins 12u beingsup# ported by the yrod 16 asshown in gFig'. 6 while the sprili'g pressed tumbler pins 12 are supported on the outer ends of the tumbler pins 12a. l In this position, the spring pressed tumbler pins 12 extend from the openings 1'1 in thecasing' rib 6 into the openings 1121 in the barrel 7' forming an interleckingconnection between the barrel' 7 and cylindrical casing section 3 toprevent rotarymovement of the barrel within the casing., f y. u
The key employed for yshitting the tumbler pins 12 and 12a, and rotating the barrel 7 for sh'ift'ingthe lock bolt 10 embodies a shankhaving a plain sidew 20 and an opposi'tely disposed longitudinally extending rib 21 that is notched' as at 22 while said key shank i's'provided with an axial bore 23'to bereceived on the rod 16 of the rotatable barrel`7.
