This invention relates "to improvements in locks es useci upon swinging doors of various types, Where ed iii-ate promotion 1S desired, the lock being of the cylinder clues.
One of the objects of the invention is wore-ride a ice-l1 having a plurality of hell, elements, in piece of a single holt as usually employecl one or more of which may engage with ihe threshold or casing oi the door at points remote from the lock, trans rersclv to bile main. horizontal halt.
Anofiher object is to provide tumblers which cenno b be damaged by iiifieinpis ii:- riliina into ihen'n "whereby they may he OKQGd RIHl the lock opened nnentiiorizeclljg.
Another ohi'eci; is to provide means wiicrel'w doe lock may he operated from the inner side of ihe door, irrespective of the (J-Ol'Mll'iTiOn off the tmnhler herreh anii finally in "provide means whereby should the her-- rel. stem he removed by iorce or otherwise, that the lioite would; still ren'iziin in. ii locked position end in which. it is impossible to i-c-edjnst the operative perks from the. on torior of? the eloor. 1
These and other ohjecis are :it-teinedl by the novel adaptation, combination incl constri. ion oil ports hcrcinniter riescriberi and shown in the cccoinpanfng (herring form-- ins" material part of this specification, end. in hiich: I

' use, what I claim as new and desire to secure by Letters Patent, is
1. In a lock of the class described, thecombination with a casing, a bolt movable horizontally therein, said bolt having two spaced extending elements, a vertically movable bolt. means for actuating said bolts simultaneously, said means being operated by a knob upon one side and by a key on the other, means for disengaging said key'operatedmeans from said actuating means and means for preventing reengagement of said I actuating means. i
2. In a lock of the class described, the combination with a casing, bolts movable therein, and a rack combined therewith, of a pinion engaging said racks revoluble in said casing, said pinion being inclinablypaounted, a knob for actuating said pinion,'a key barrel havinghardened pins operative therein, a cylinder rotatable within said barrel,.
an adjustable connection between said cylinder and said pinion, said connection having a part normally maintaining said pinion in a horizontal position and, means preventing the reinserti0n of said part after withdrawal.
3. In a lock of the class described, a casing, one or more bolts slidable' in transverse planes in. said casing, racks combined with said bolts, a pinion common to all of said racks, direct means for rotating said pinion on one side of the lock, a key operated rotating means on the other, a pivot mounting for one end of said pinion, an extension from said key operating means entering said pinion at the other, and means, operative upon the withdrawal of said extension, for raising said pinion out of alinement therewith and preventing its retntrance.
In testimony whereof I have signed my name to this specification.
