Description
A. STROBEL.
Sad-Irons.
N0, 146,957, Patentedlan27,1874.
UNITED STATES PATENT OFFICE.
ADOLF STROBEL, OF ALBANY, NEYV YORK.
IMPROVEMENT IN SAD-IRONS.
Specification forming part of Letters Patent No. 146.957, (lated January 27, 1h74; application filed December 17, 1873. f
To all ywhom it may concern:
Be it known that L ADOLF STRonEL, of Albany, in the county of Albany and State of New York, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Sad-Irons and I do hereby declare that the following is a full, clear, and exact description thereof, reference being had to the accompanying drawings and to the letters of reference marked thereon, which form a part of this specification, in which- A Figure l is a side elevation, Fig. 2 alongitudinal, and Fig. 3 a vertical section, of my invention, the nature of which consists in the peculiar arrangement of the locking device, as will be hereinafter more fully set forth.
To enable others skilled in the art to avail themselves of the benet of my invention, I will now describe its construction and operation.
Arepresents the iron, which is made hollow and provided with the hinged top B. The rim of the iron is scalloped or otherwise arranged,
is rnily secured to the front side of the iroi 7 near its bottom, as fully shown in Fig. 1. rlhis latch is provided with au elongated hole or slot, as seen at e, same figure. Behind the slot is a screw-hole in the body of the iron. (1 represent-s a large-headed screw, which, extending through the slotinto the hole e, serves as a complete lock, and eifectually prevents the catch from relieving the top until the screw g is sufficiently unscrewed to allow the latch to be sprung back.
Those who have used this kind of iron will fully appreciate the necessity of an arrange ment of this kind, as it offers a complete safeguard against the coals being emptied upon the clothing.
I am well aware that there is no novelty in the construction of the sad-iron itself, and therefore lay no claim to any feature excepting'the peculiar locking device herein set forth.
Having thus fully described my invention, what I cla-im, and desire to secure by Letters Patent, is V rIhe spring-latch d and screw g, in. combina tion with iron A and top B, arranged tor op crate as and for the purpose described.
In testimony that I claim the foregoing as my own I affix my signature in presence of two witnesses.
ADOLF STROBEL.
