UNETEZE PATENT @FWQE.
WILLIAM a. LA PLANTE, on ST. PAUL, MINNESOTA.
TOY AEROPLANE.
Application filed June 1, 1921, Serial No. 474,066.
T all whom it may concern:
Be it known that I, VlLLIAM B. La PLANTE, a citizen of the United States, re-
' siding at St. Paul, in the county of Ramsey and State of Minnesota, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Toy Aeroplanes, of which the following is a specification.
This invention relates to improvements in toys, and more particularly to toy aeroplanes.
The primary object of the invention ire-- sides in the construction of a-toy aeroplane in which the steering rod for the front wheels is adapted to be disposed in proximity to a seat on the body of the toy so that the said steering rod will be within easy and convenient reach of a child operating the same.
Another object of the invention resides in a toy aeroplane construction wherein the body or fuselage is provided witha seat arranged so that the body may be straddled in such a manner that the feet of the child may engage the ground to propel the aeroplane forwardly, including a steering rod or bar disposed within easy reach of said seat for guiding the toy.
Another and very important object of the invention will be found to reside in a toy aeroplane of the type above set forth which will be extremely simple in construction, consisting of comparatively few parts of very light material, therefore inexpensive to manufacture, strong and durable, being adapted and designed for very young children, and otherwise attractive in its general appearance whereby its commercial possibilities are greatly enhanced.
With these objects in view and others which will be suggested and manifest as the purpose and nature of my invention are revealed in the improved construction particularly described and set forth in the following specification, and in the accompanying drawings, wherein Figure 1 is a. side view showing the toy,
Fig. 2 is a front view thereof, and,
Fig. 3 is a partial plan view showing the feet arrangement in relation with the body.
Referring now to the drawings wherein like parts designate corresponding parts throughout the specification, 5 designates the fuselage or body portion of the toy which is shown as rearwardly tapering as at 6 and provided with the vertical and horizontally Renewed March 3, 1923.
disposed vanes or planes 7, 8, at its rear designed along aeroplane lines. Substantially medially of the body, I have provided a seat 9 having a back 9 and side 9 to accommodate a child which seat is disposed slightly forward of the rear shown are supported beneath the body, by V- shaped hangers 11 secured by suitable fastening elements 12 and connected to the rear axle 13 as is well understood. Referring in particular to Fig. 3, it will be noted that the body of the toy is cut away as at 14 so that the child may conveniently straddle the body while in the seat in such manner that the child may engage his feet with the ground to propel the toy forwardly or rearwardly.
Suitably mounted on the front and body portion of the toy, I have provided a cylindrical like hollow casing or head 15, which carries a propeller blade 16, said casing being open at its rear and adapted to receive any article casing 15 is mounted on the lower plane 17 which as shown isconnected to the top plane 18 by the usual struts 19, angularly extending braces 20 being also provided and extending between the casing and top plane 18 as clearly shown by Fig. 2 of the drawing. The front supporting wheels 21 and their axle 22 are carried by the hanger 23 secured beneath and at the front of the body of the toy, the said axle being provided with an inverted U-shaped element 2 1 which is rotatable with respect to the hanger 23. The steering rod comprises a substantially shaped bar, the vertical arm 25 of which extends through the casing 15 and body of the vehicle and through the hanger 23 and the U-shaped element 24, being connected at its lower end 26 with the axle of the front wheels as clearly shown by Fig. 2. The rearwardly extending arm 27 of the steering rod is disposed in proximity to the seat 9 where it may be easily and conveniently seized by the child and of course operated to the right or left to steer the toy as desired. The hanger 23 is also provided with rearwardly extending braces 28 on each side thereof which are secured as at 29 beneath the body thus affording a strong, durable and rigid structure designed to withstand rough and constant use.
From the above construction taken in connection with the drawings, it will be readily seen that I have provided a novel and very wheels 10 which as or toy of the child. The said i
