Description
Patented Jan, 23,
UNITED STATES einen l Basin nnrnnov, or BROOKLYN, nnwvoair,
WHEELED' TOY.
Application filed October 6, 1921. Serial No. 505,834.
To all ifi/ima it may concern:
`Be it known that I, Basin Nnrnnov, a citizen of Russia, and a resident of the city of New York, borough of Brooklyn, in the county of Kings and State ot New York, have inventeril anew and Improved Wheeled Toy, yof which the following is a full, clear, andv exact description.
This invention relates to improvements in toys, an object of the invention being to jl'irovide a toy aeroplane mounted upon wheels and provided Vwith a sail so that the toy will be blown over the ground.
A further object is to provide a toy of this character formed in several interfitting sections which may be disassembled permitting the top to be packed in a relatively small. space.
Still another object of the invention is'to provide a toy which will be simple and practical in construction, durable and efficient in use, attractive in appearance and comparatively inexpensive to manufacture.
With these and other objects in view, the invention consists in certain rnovel features of construction and combinations and arrangements of parts as will be more fully hereinafter described and pointed out in the claims.
In the accompanying drawings: l
.Figure l is a view in side elevation of my `improved toy;
Figure 2 is a view in front elevation thereof;
Figure 3 is a fragmentary sectional view on the line of Figure l and Figure 4 is a sectional view on the line 4-4 of Figure l.
. Referring in detail to the drawings, my improved toy comprises an elongated body portion. l, simulating in appearance to a fuselage of au aeroplane,` 'A propeller 2 is mounted on the forward end of the body portion and a laterally extending tail 3 is formed from a sheet of suitable material attached at its forward end to the rear of the body 1. A traction wheell4 is journaled upon a suit-able shaft 5 mounted in a recess in the extreme rear end of the body.
I have used the reference numeral 6 to designate a transverse frame detachably associated with the forward end of the body portion, and including laterally extending arms 7, at the extremities of which, traction wheels 8 are mounted. A recess 9 in the upper edgeofthe intermediate portion of the frame 6 cooperates with a similar` recess in the bottom'of the -body portion to permit the interiitting `of the body portion and frame in a customary 'andwelll known manner, as seen most clearly 'in Figure 4.`
The representation of a driver l0 may be secured in a curved recess ll `in the top ofv the body portion in any approved manner. A vertical slit or recess l2 in the top of the body portion immediately behind the driver provides a place of attaclnnent for a relatively wide plane or sail 13. `The plane preferably comprises' a sheet of relatively 'thin light metal, to 'which a vertical channeled reinforcing bar 14 `is attached. applying the plane to the body portion, the'` lower edge of t-he plane proper and the in termediate portion of the `channeled member are introduced into the slot 12, the sidesor arms of the channeled member embracing the body portion, as seen clearly in Figure 3 and bracing the plane against accidental displacement.
It will be apparent that the construction of the planeand its method of attachment to the body portion might be considerably varied without departing from the spirit of the invention which is broad enough to cover a plane applied in `any manner to a rolling toy.
In using the toy, thechild places the toy upon the ground and it is blown by the wind. It will be noted that the traction wheels are spaced a suiicient distance apart to prevent accidental overturning of the toy.
Although I have illustrated the preferred embodiment of my invention, certain slight changes and alterations might be made in the general form and arrangement of the parts described without departing from the invention, and hence l doV not wish to limit myself to the precise details of construction, but shall consider myself at liberty to make such slight changes and alterations as fairly fall ywithin the spirit and scope of the apa wheel at the rear end of the body portion,
and a plane detachably mounted on the body portion, said plane including a sheet of light metal and a channeled; bracing bar carried thereby, said body having a slit in its upper edge receiving the lower edge of the sheet and intermediate portion of the lower end of the channeled member, whereby to Support said plane .in vertical position.
2. A toy comprising a body consistingot a strip oli material having a notch in its under side, a transverse frame having a notch in its upper side adapted to interlit the notch in the body, Wheels at the outer extremities of said iframe, a Wheel at the rear end of said body, and a vertical plane detachably carried by the body, said plane including a sheet of material having a central vertical brace, the said body having a slit in its upper edge receiving the lower` edge of the plane and the brace.
3. As a new article of manufacture, a toy including a Wheeled bod)v consisting of a strip of material having a transverseV slit in its upper edge, and a plane including a sheet of material havinga central vertical brace with, side flanges on said brace extending at right angles to the plane and parallel to each other, the lower edge of said plane and thebrace being' received by the slit with the side iianges of the brace extending alongside the body to maintain the plane in a vertical position.
