Be it known that I, MARKS ABRAHAMS, a citizen of the United States, and a resident of-the city of Chicago, county of Cook, and State of Illinois, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Safety Holders,

. of which the following is a specification.

This invention relates to safety holders for watch chains, key rings, and the like, and has for its object the provision of a device of this character adapted to be secured to the inner surface of a belt, and having means for detachably and resiliently retaining the Watch chain or key ring in connection therewith.

Another object of theinvention is to provide such a device which is made up from a single blank of resilient material.

The invention consists of a device which preferably is secured to the inner surface of a belt 10, preferably adjacent the buckle 11 thereof, or at some distance from the Watch pocket 12, ordinarily provided in the trousers 13, so that when the watch chain 14 is secured to the device the chain will be looped as shown in Fig. 1. Although this is the preferred location of the device, it will be understood that same may be disposed in any suitable situation, such as in the pockets of a waistcoat or other garment.

The device per se referably comprises a plate 14 of some suitable resilient material, and formed on the opposite sides of the plate 14 are Wings 15, which are adapted to the edges of such wings being turned back as shown at 17. A tongue 18 is also formed on the plate 14 and is adapted to be turned upwardly on the dotted line 19 so asto form a hook 20 as shown in Fig. 3, the inner wall of which is inwardly bent as shown at.21 and the edge of which is outwardly tu'rned as shown at 22. The device may be attached to the inner surface of the belt 10 by any suitable means, but in the preferred form of the invention I provide the plate 14 with rivet holes 23 for the reception of rivets 24 extending through the belt 10.

By this arrangement it will be seen that when the bar 25 attached to the watch chain 14 is disposed within the spring catches, the same will be resiliently held therein, as shown. The hook 2O mayhave a key ring 26 or other article resiliently held therein and in this connection it will be noticed that the inwardly bent portion 21, and the upwardly extending portion 20 form a resilient catch therefor.

A slightly different form of the invention is illustrated in Figs. 4, 5 and 6. In this embodiment of' the invention a plate 27 sim ilar to the plate 14 is provided having wings 2S thereon similar to the wings 15, such wings being adapted to. be upwardly, inwardly, and outwardly bent as shownflat 17 in Fig. 6, substantially in the same-manner as before described. The plate'27 is also provided with a tongue 29 similar to the tongue 18, which is adapted to be bent into a hook 30 similar to the hook 20 as before described. In addition one side of the plate 27 is provided with extensions 31, which are adapted to be bent back upon the plate 27 on the dotted lines 32. The opposite side of the plate 27 is provided with a tongue 33, which. is also adapted to be bent back upon the plate 27 and project between the extensions 31 in such manner as to form a loop 34 which may be slidably mounted on the belt 10 as will be readily understood.

While I have illustrated and describedv and modifications as come within the scope of the appended claims.

Having described my invention, what I claim as new and desire to secure by Letters Patent is:

1. The combination with a belt, of a safety holder secured thereto; and a plurality of spaced resilient catches formed on said holder, each of which consists of oppositely disposed side members curved outwardly, then inwardly and then outwardly; and a bar adapted to be pressed in said catches and resiliently and detachably held therein.

2-. The combination with a belt, a safety holder; a forked extension on one side of said holder extending about said belt; a

tongue on the opposite side of said holder extending about said belt and being receivable between the side inembersof said forked extension; and a member between the sides of said forked extension,said member being formed into a hook.

3. The combination with a belt, a. safety holder; a forked extension on one side of said. holder extending about said belt; a tongue on the opposite side of said holder extending about said belt and being receivable between the side members of said extension; and resilient catches at the opposite sides of said holder.

The combination with a belt, a safety holder; a forked extension on one side of said holder extending about said belt; a tongue on the opposite side of said holder extending about said belt and being receivable between the side members of said extension; and resilient catches at the opposite side of saidholder, each of which comprises oppositely disposed members curved outwardly then inwardly and then outwardly.

5. The combination with a belt, a safety holder; means for securing said safety holder to said belt; and resilient catches formed on said safety holder, each of which consists of oppositely disposed side members curved outwardly, then inwardly, and then outwardly.

6. The combination with the inner surface of a belt; a safety holder having inwardly turned resilient catches thereon; means for securing said catches to said belt; and a resilient hook having its rear wall and the end of said hook bent toward each other.

7. The combination with a belt, a safety holder; a forked extension on one side of said holder extending about said belt; a tongue on the opposite side of said holder extending about said belt and being receivable between the side members of said extension for slidably holding said holder on said belt.

8, In combination with the inner surface of a belt, a safety holder having spaced resilient catches thereon each of which consists of oppositely disposed side members curved outwardly, then inwardly and then out-s wardly.

9. In combination with the inner surface of a belt, a'safety holder having spaced resilient catchesv thereon each of which consists of oppositely disposed side members curved outwardly and then inwardly; and a bar adapted to be pressed through said catches and resiliently and detachably held therein.

10. The combination with a belt, of a safety holder having spaced resilient catches thereon; means for securing said holderfto said belt; and a resilient hook having its rear wall and the end of said hook bent toward each other.
