Description
H. L. EAGER DEVICE FOR REMOVING FACIAL WRINKLES May 1, 1923.
Filed Feb. 6, 1922 H@mz L EM fill 6H0: News Patented HONO R L. EAGEB, OF BROOKLYNpNEW YORK.
' DEVICE FOR REMOVING FACIAL WBINKLES.
Application filed February 6, 1922. Serial No. 584,351.
To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that I, HONOR L. EAGER, a citizen of the United States, residing at Brooklyn, in the county of Kings and State of New York, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Devices for Removing Facial Wrinkles, of which the following is a specification.
This invention relates to a device for removing facial wrinkles, and has for its primary object the provision of a device of the character set forth which .can be worn by the user without the inherent discomfort usually attended upon the use of such devices.
Due to depletion and falling away of certain of the face tissues a looseness of the skin develops, causing the fleshy facial structure to droop forming furrows around the mouth and throat and sagging of the cheeks and chin, thus forming wrinkles, and the present invention is intended to lightly grip the facial skin in such a manner at certain points as to eradicate the Wrinkles referred to by a lifting action, replacing the skin of the face in its original position.-
- The device described herein exerts a lifting action upon the muscles of the face,
smoothing out wrinkles and furrows in the facial tissue and lifting the sagging cheeks.
In order that the above may be accomplished with a minimum. of discomfort to the wearer and a maximum of efficiency the present device is so constructed that it may be worn under and concealed by the hair of the wearer. The-device may be worn constantly if desired. thus preventing the wrinkles from returning, as is common with devices of this character which can be worn only in privacy, due to their unsightly appearance and awkward construction.
With the foregoing and other objects in' view the invention consists in a resilient band which is adapted to partially encircle the head of the wearer, such band carrying at its ends "extremely soft and pliable gripping pads which are placed in contact with the facial skin at the point where the lifting action is most easily accomplished, with no injury to the skin, means being additionally provided whereby the device can be conveniently adjusted to accommodate various sizes, as hereinafter set forth and claimed.
More specifically the present invention consists of separate end pieces adapted for attachment to a resilient hand, such end pieces comprising a foundation or attaching member of fibre, cardboard or the like, carrymg face-engagmg pads of very soft pliable material such as rubber or rubber composition so assembled as to form a pliable device, sustaining in function.
i In the accompanying drawings illustratmg a preferred embodiment of the invention and in which the same parts are similarly designated,
F g. 1 is a perspective view of the device; Fig. 2 1s a detail perspective showing certam parts in separated relation;
Fig. '3 is a section on line 3, 3 of Fig. 1; 7
Fig. 4 is an illustration of a womans head demonstrating the furrows, sagging and wrinkles which the device is designed to smooth out;
Fig. 5 is a device in position, and
Fig. 6 is a partial side view with the devlce similarly placed as in Fig. 5.
In the form of the invention illustrated in the drawings, 7 designates a band or strip at a point approximately midway between the ends of the strips 7 is a pad 9 preferably formed of very soft and pliable material and functioning to space the band referred to from the head of the wearer and to prevent direct contact therewith and rigid pressure .thereon, also further preventing the device 10151 slipping out of position and off of the Adjacent the ends of the strip 7 the covering 8 terminates. leaving an exposed portion 10 of the strip 7, the cover 8 for purposes of assembly of the device being left unsecured to the strip 7 for a short distance and for a purpose hereinafter to be explained.
A foundation member 11, formed of fiber.
cardboard or the like, is provided. and is covered by an envelope 12 of suitable fabric material having-outwardly extending portions 1314. i
is secured a pad 15 of rubber, rubber composition or other soft pliable material having front view of the head with the 1 7 is preferably covered 85 To the under side of the member 11 there Q aeoaoao a slightly concaved grippin surface 16. The pad 15 extends beyond t e foundation member 11, as shown at 17.
In assembling the pads in connection with the strip 7 to form the completed device the uncovered end 10 of the band 7 is inserted between the portions 1314 to overlie the foundation member 11 between the cover 12 thereof and over-lapping such member to the desired distance, to allow for the desired head size of the device. The portions 13-14 will thereupon extend along the strip 7 and into the pockets formed on either sides thereof by the unsecured portions of the cover 8, when the whole may be secured together by means of suitable adhesive, in the position shown in the section designated as Due to the resiliency of the strip 7 there is a compression exerted upon the pads 15,
.such compression being distributed and minimized by the construction which causes the ends of the strip 7 to overlie the foundation members 11, which thus distributes this compression across the entire face of the pads, minimizing the usual discomfort in wearing devices of this character.
In the use of devices of this nature it has been found that where the ends of the headencircling band extend to and overlay the face-engaging pads the rigidity of said head-encircling band causes an excessive pressure on such pads and resulting discomfort due to the binding action of the edges of said face-engaging pads.
By providing the space 17, to which ex)- tent the pads 15 project beyond the foundation members, there is obviated the binding.
action usually exerted by the edges 18 upon the facial skin, such binding action being distributed throughout the entire pad instead of adjacent the edge thereof.
With the device inposition as shown in Figs. 5 and 6 the soft pads 15 exert a gently lifting action to the loose facial skin,
smoothing out the furrows, lifting the sagging cheeks, thus removing the wrinkles in the face and neck, and improving the appearance of the wearer. Worn under the hair the device may be utilized as assisting in the formation of desired hair arrangements, being particularly useful in this connection with'the employment of false hair.
Although there has been herein shown and described a particular embodiment of the invention, it is to be understood that the invention is not limited thereto, as various changes in construction, details and arrangement of the various parts may be made within the scope of the appended claims.
What I claim is:
1. In a device for removing facial wrinkles, in combination, a resilient band, an envelope for said band terminating short of the ends thereof, face engaging pads, a pad pressing member coacting with each said members spaced from t e ends and one side edge of each pad, the ends of the band engaging the central portions of said members whereby to equa ize the pressure over ad, the edges of the whole surface of each pad, an envelope 7 for said members surrounding the ends of said band and overlapped by said band envelope whereby to adjust the effective length of said device.
2. In a device for removing facial wrinkles, in combination, a resilient band, an envelope for said band terminating short of the ends thereof, face-engagin pads, a pad pressing member coacting Wit each pad, the edges of said members spaced from the ends and one side edge of each pad, the ends of the band engaging the central portions of said members and spaced from the ends and a side edge thereof whereby to equalize the pressure over the whole surface of each pad -an envelope for said members surrounding the ends of said band and overlapped by said band envelope whereby to adjust the effective length of said device.
