Description

Feb. 14, 1933. w D 1,897,146
HEAD BAND Filed May 18, 1931 Inventor WzZZz'am 17 za/mmlsm,
- Patented Feb. 14, 1933 PATENT OFFICE WILLIAM RICHARDSON, F FLUSHING, NEW YORK HEAD BAND Application filed May 18,
This invention relates to a head band, the general object of the invention being to provide a band of elastic material and of substantially arcuate shape with tabs at its ends having means thereon whereby the said ends of the band can be adjustably connected to gether so that the band can be used for various purposes such as to hold the hair in place, to hold a compress on various parts of the 19 head or face or the limbs or to hold a bandage in place or to be used as a cover for the eyes and ears the latter use being especially desirable when one is having a shampoo.
This invention also consists in certain other features of construction and in the combination and arrangement of the several parts, to be hereinafter fully described, illustrated in the accompanying drawing and specifically pointed out in the appended claim.
In describing the invention in detail, reference will be had to the accompanying drawing wherein like characters denote like or corresponding parts throughout the several views, and in which Figure 1 is an elevation of the improved band.
Figure 2 is an edge view thereof.
In these views the letter A indicates a band which is preferably formed of elastic material or any combination of material such as to impart elasticity to the band and said band is of substantially arcuate shape as it is formed with a straight central part and arcuate end parts as clearly shown in Figure l and has a tab 2 at each end thereof which is formed by reducing the ends of the band as shown in Figures 1 and 2. One tab has a number of female fastening parts thereon as shown at 3 and the other tab has a male fastener part thereon as shown at 4.
Thus it will be seen that the band can be fastened around the head so as to hold the hair in place or in a position where it will cover the ears or eyes or both the ears and eyes by placing the male member in one of the female members and by providing a number of the female members, the band can be adjusted to fit heads of difi'erent persons or various parts of the head of the same person. The band can be used to hold a compress in place 1931. Serial No. 538,322.
or a bandage and while it is mainly designed for use on the head it may be of course used on a limb.
It is thought from the foregoing description that the advantages and novel features of the invention will be readily apparent.
It is to be understood that changes may be made in the construction and in the combination and arrangement of the several parts, provided that such changes fall within the scope of the appended claim.
Having thus described my invention, what I claim as new is:
A band of the class described comprising a single strip of elastic material having an elongated straight middle portion and two curved end portions, said end portions curving outwardly and downwardlyfrom the middle portion, the extremities of the curved portions being reduced to form tabs, a male member of a snap fastener on one tab and a female member of the snap fastener on the other tab, the major parts of the end portions being of substantially the same width as the middle portion and said middle portion having its edges substantially parallel, whereby said middle portion will cover the eyes and the curved end portions the ears of a person receiving a shampoo.
In testimony whereof I afiX my signature. 89
VVILLI AM RICHARDSON.
