Description

G. MY ER S.
Subsoil Gang-Flows.
N0 'l45,361 Patented Dec. 9,1873.
Witnesses:
PATENT FEIOEc CHRISTIAN MYERS, OF MARYSVILLE,
CALIFORNIA, ASSIGNOR TO HIMSELF AND FRANCIS J. SCHAEFFER, OF DAVENPORT, IOWA.
IMPROVEMENT IN SUBSOIL GANG-FLOWS.
Specification forming part of Letters Patent No. 145,361, dated December D, 1873; application tiled August 16, 1873.
To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that I, CHRIsTIAN MYERS, of Marysville, in the county of Yuba and State of California, have invented a new and Improved Subsoil Gang-Plow, ot' which the :following is a speeiiication:
In the accompanying drawing, Figure 1 represents a side elevation of my improved sub soil gang-plow; Fig. 2, a top view of the same; and Figs. 3 and 4, detail end and bottom views of the plowshare.
Similar letters of reference indicate corresponding parts.
The invention will first be fully described, and then pointed out in the claim.
In the drawing, A represents the plow-frame, to whose front part is hun g, in arms or bars a, the cross-bar or shaft I), which carries at its outer ends the forward extending arms B. The square axle C of the plow-wheels passes through perforations of the arms B, which are firmly applied thereon by set-screws d, which are let into arms B from the fore end Of the saine. One of the arms B is provided at right angles with an upward-proj ectin g arm, B', centrally on arm B, and pivoted to an intermediate link or piece, D, which is again pivoted to an arm, E, applied at right angles to the leverbeam F. Lever F is pivoted to the front part ot frame A, and produces, on bein g raised into a vertical pOsiton,'t-he lowering` of the plowirame, and consequently the depression of the gan g-plows at the rear part of the frame, while on being lowered the plows are elevated from the soil. The rotation of axle C carries thereby the whole frame with it, and adapts it to the use of one or two plows in the same gang.
To make the plowshare G detachable, I produce the same in one piece with the point H, and extend the latter back to the full length of the land-side H. A hook, e, is welded to the lower side of share G in the longitudinal direction of the same, and slightly rounded ott' at the lower side to oii'er less resistance to the earth. rIhe rear part of point H is provided with an oblong aperture, j', which corresponds with a similar one, f', of the land-side Il. rIhe land-side H is recessed for the extension Ot' point H, and the under side G of the plow extended forward, and provided with an Oblong` aperture, c', through which hook e is introduced. The share Gr is then carried toward the land-side till hook e closes rmly on the under side G', and the rear part of point H into the recess of land-side H. A wedge or key, g, is then driven through the holes fj", fastening thereby the share G rigidly and strongly to the supporting parts of the plow, allowing at the same time the ready taking oit', sharpening, or replacing of the share.
Having thus described my invention, I claim as new and desire to secure by Letters Patent- The combination of detachable share G, having hooks c and rear extension ot' point H, with under side Gr and land-side H', by means ot slot c', apertures fj, and wedge-piece g, for
the purpose set forth.
CHRISTIAN MYERS.
