IMPROVEMENT IN RIBBON-BLOCKS.

Specification forming part of Letters Patent No. 144,520, dated November l1, i873; application filed April 9, 1873.

To all whom it may concern Be it known that I, THEoDoR EHRENEERG, of the city, county, and State of New York, have invented a new and useful Improvement in Ribbon-Blocks; and I do hereby declare the following to be a full, clear, and exact description thereof, which will enable those skilled in the art to make and use the same, reference being had to the accompanying drawing forming part of this specification, in which drawing- Figure I represents a horizontal section of my invention. Fig. 2 is a vertical central section of the same.

This invention consists of a ribbon block made of a hollow body, with al1 internal brace supporting the heads, which are inserted into the ends of the hollowr body in such a manner that the heads are not liable to be crushed in by the external pressure to which they are eX- posed in applying the labels and in handling;

rior of the body a I apply a brace, c, which may be cylindrical or in any other form or shape, and which serves to sustain the heads against any external pressure to which the same are exposed in putting on the labels or in packing.

Hollow ribbon-blocks have heretofore been made, and I do not claim such as my invention. Such blocks have the desirable quality of superior lightness, but they lack the requisite durability or rmness. Their heads being fastened to the body only at their edges, and being entirely without supportin the middle, are liable to be crushed in by a slight external pressure 5* and, for this reason, their use has been discontinued.

By my invention the heads are firmly supported, while the weight of the block 'is but slightly increased; and I am enabledto produce a firm and durable ribbon-block, which is much lighter than the wooden blocks generally usedfor the purpose of supporting ribbons.

What I claim as new, and desire to secure by Letters Patent, is-

A ribbon-block composed of a hollow body,
