UNITED STATES PATENT OFFICE.
NOAH B. SIMONDS, SPRINGFIELD, OHIO, ASSIGNOR OF ONE-HALF TO HENRY B. DIXON, OF SPRINGFIELD, OHIO.
FOLDING HAMMOCK-SUPPORT.
To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that I, NOAH B. SIMoNns, a citizen of the United States, residing at Springfield, in the county of Clark and State of Ohio, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Folding Hammock-Supports, of which the following is a specification.
My invention relates to folding hammock supports, and the object of the invention is to provide a support which will be simple in construction, effective in use and which may be readily folded to a compact form for shipping or storing.
In the accompanying drawings,-Figure 1 is a side view of a support embodying my improvements. Fig. 2 is an end view of the same. Fig. 3 is a plan View of the same. Fig. l is a view of the support in folded position, the view being on a reduced scale. Fig. 5 is an enlarged vertical section in de tail of a portion of the device. Fig. 6 is a sectional view in detail of a portion of one of the side rails and end frames and the connecting devices between the same.
Like parts are represented by similar characters of reference in the several views.
In the said drawings, 1 and 2 represent respectively the end frame portions which are preferably constructed of hollow tubin Each of these frame portions is formed of a U-shaped bar having its lower ends 1 and 2 preferably offset or flared outwardly and preferably provided with casters 3. These U-shaped end frame portions are connected by side rails 4 and 5, also preferably formed of hollow tubing. Secured in the respective ends of each of the side rails is the shank of a casting 7, which casting is provided with a squared downwardly-flaring opening or eye 8. Fitted to each side of the respective U-shaped frame portions near the lower ends thereof, is a squared downwardly-flaring or wedge-shaped block 9, these blocks being received by the openings 8 of the side rails when the parts are assembled; the blocks being preferably secured to the end frames by pins 9. By driving the casting 7 down upon these wedge-shaped blocks, a

rigid connection is made between the end frames and the side rails, and if desired, each of the castings 7 may be provided with a set-screw 10 which may be caused to impinge against the blocks to assist in holding the side rails firmly in position, although these set-screws are not indispensable.
Each of the U-shaped end frames will be provided at its upper end with a hook 11 to which the hammock or other article to be supported may be attached.
In folding, the castings 7 of the side rails are removed from the wedge-shaped blocks, which may readily be done by giving the castings a slight ta on their under sides, and then the side rails are slid up to the top of the U-shaped end portions and the end portions folded together as shown in Fig. l.
Having thus described my invention, I claim:-
1. In a folding support, end frames, each of which is formed of a substantially U- shape, side rails slidably mounted, on said end frames, and means for detachably securing said side rails to said end frames.
2. In a folding support, end frames, each of said frames formed of a substantially U- shaped bar, side rails, wedge-shaped blocks on said end frames, and eyes formed on the ends of said side rails to receive said blocks.
3. In a folding support, end frames, each frame being formed of a substantially U- shaped bar, side rails, the ends of said side rails having flaring eyes, and wedge-shaped blocks on said end frames to receive said e es.
4L. In a folding support, end frames, each of said frames being formed of a substan tially U-shaped bar, side rails, the ends of said side rails having squared flaring eyes, and wedge-shaped blocks on said end frames to receive said eyes.
In testimony whereof, I have hereunto set my hand this 16th day of April, 1912 NOAH B. SIMONDS.
