The length of the pasted paper D sup ported on either the frame B or P or both, is then transferred to the wall by adjusting the apparatus with the frame B close up to the latter, and the paper can then be readily matched with the former length, and finally pressed up to the wall. As shown in Fig. 1. of the drawings, one side member of the frame P has a scale of feet indicated upon it in order to assist the operator in cutting ofi the paper to the exact length required.
When papering a ceiling, the frame P is elevated until the rail P is close up to the former, and the length of paper hanging down on each side of said rail P can then be readily raised one after the other up to and secured in the proper position on the ceiling.
The rail P on the frame P is further divided in the middle, or at any other convenient point or points, and its ends are connected to parts P which are pivoted on the top of the side members of the frame P, so that when the rail P is disconnected in the middle, the respective parts form arms which can be swivelled round on the frame P.
In papering corners for instance, the length of pasted paper can be divided longitudinally, and each portion can be suspended from the corresponding part of the rail P, which latter can be adjusted so as to hold the respective parts of the aper in the position required for hanging it in the corner.
When papering over an obstruction such as a fireplace, bars Q which are adapted to hold a rail Q some distance from the frame P, are substituted for the rail members P as shown in Fig. 5. These bars Q are attached to the pivoted parts P on the top of the side members of the frame P, and the rail Q, which is thus supported over the obstruction by the bars Q, is used to hold the paper close up to the wall.
The top of the frame B may be provided with detachable arms B which can be used for papering in recesses and for holding lengths of pasted paper, when it is necessary to apply the paste some time prior to transferring to the wall.
If desired paper edge trimming mechanism of the usual construction may be combined with the apparatus described, and the process of trimming one or both edges of the paper can be carried on simultaneously with the operation of elevating and pasting the paper.
This mechanism is disposed between the roll of paper D and the paste feed roller F, and as shown in the drawings, it comprises two parallel shafts R, R, mounted in bearings in or attached to the framing A. These '4 The shafts R, R described are provided with the usual circular cutters T, which can be set at any point in the length of the said shafts It, R, and can be thus used for trimming the edges of the paper D or cutting it longitudinally into twowidthsas required. Suflicient cutters T may however be provided to perform both of the said operations at one and the same time.
For working on staircases or like places, the respective sides of the framing A are provided with clamps V, (see Figs. 1 and 2) adapted to hold legs or supports W, which are vertically adjustable therein, so as to provide a means of supporting the framing A level on a staircase or on other uneven surfaces.
In connection with the edge trimming mechanism described, are adjustable brackets Y which are fixed on the framing A between the roll of paper D and the'shafts R, R. These brackets are adapted to enage with the edges of and guide the paper and also serve to carry a rod Y which holds the paper down between said brackets. What I claim as my invention and desire to secure by Letters Patent is 1. In a paper hanging apparatus, a supporting frame, a tank for paste, a paste applying device arranged in the said tank and provided with a driving shaft, rollers on the end portions of the driving shaft outside the tank, guide rollers mounted in the frame, endless flexible connections passing over the said rollers and guide rollers, a'support for a supply of paper, and means for connecting the paper to the said flexible connections so that it is drawn over the top of the said paste applying device.
2. In a paper hanging apparatus, a supporting frame, a tank for paste, a paste applying device arranged in the said tank and provided with a driving shaft, rollers on the end portions of the driving shaft outside the tank, guide rollers mounted in the frame, endless flexible connections passing over the said rollers and guide rollers, a second-paste applying device also arranged in the said tank, a support for a supply of paper, means for connecting the paper to the said flexible connections so that it is drawn over the tops of the twopaste applying devices, and means for pressing the paper downwardly in its passage between the two paste applying devices so that its effective contact-with them is assured. 1
3. In combination with a paper hanging apparatus as set forth in claim 1, a supplementary frame slidable vertically on the Said frame d adapted to raise the paper to a greater height and support it when raised.
4. In combination with a-paper hanging apparatus as set forth in claim 1, a supplementary frame slidable vertically on the said frame and provided with side rails and a top rail formed in two parts, each of which parts is pivoted to one of the side rails and adapted to be swung around horizontally.
