Abstract
543,467. Coating surfaces. STRABLE, J. F., and GYPROC PRODUCTS, Ltd. July 17, 1940, No. 11824. [Class 95] [Also in Groups XXIII and XVII] Apparatus for edge grinding and bundling cementitious slabs comprises a conveyer 20 for carrying a succession of stacks B, each consisting of say three slabs, past two edge grinding units and two edge taping units. The conveyer consists of two chains 19 on wheels 17, 18 the former being driven through chain and toothed reducing gear by a motor 25. Each grinding unit comprises a built up grinding cylinder 40 mounted on a shaft which is driven by a motor 39 and adjustable angularly about shafts 36, 38 at right angles, on an arm 35 which can be adjusted vertically on the support 31 and horizontally to or from the work. The cylinders may be set at 20 degrees to the horizontal and at 5 degrees to 10 degrees to the line of the conveyer being outwardly inclined, as shown, to form, a jaw to receive the slabs. Each taping unit comprises a supply reel 46, a gumming roller 50, guide rollers 47, 48, 49, 52, 53 a spring blade 54, spring-pressed rollers 55, 56 a grooved folding roller 57 and vertical and horizontal spring blades 58, 59, 60. A quick drying waterproofing material, such as bitumen or resin with a small proportion of rubber or China wood oil dissolved in spirit, may be applied to the ground edges, before taping, by means of nozzles 65 supplied from reservoirs 67, adapted to be connected to compressed air mains 73. The conveyer is loaded and unloaded by hand with the assistance of fixed and spring guides 42, 43 and roller tables, not shown. Instead of inclining the grinding cylinders these may be made conical. The machine is on castors 61 but may be supported and levelled on jacks 62. The Provisional Specification describes modifications in which spring presser rollers are used to hold down the work and in place of the spring guide 43 and in which the tape between the stacks B is broken automatically.
