IMPRCVEMENT IN MATCH-BOXES.
Specification forming part of Letters Patent No. 144,283, dated November 4, 1873; application filed June 21, 1873.
To all whom fit may concern:
Be it Vknown that I, MORRIS L. ORUM, of Philadelphia, in the county of Philadelphia and State of Pennsylvania, have invented a new and useful Improvement in Gas-Burner Brackets, of which the following is a specification:
The object of this invention is to provide safe and convenient receptacles for matches, connected with the gas-burner bracket; and it consists in a match-safe combined with the Y bracket, hereinafter Inore fully described.
In the accompanying drawing, Figure l represents a front view. Fig. 2 is a horizontal section taken on the line x .T of Fig. 4lr

A represents the wall. B is the bracketpipe, which projects from the wall, and carries the gas-burner. O is the service gas-pipe. D is the bracket-plate, through which the bracketpipe B passes. This plate is extended laterally in one or both directions, and has a match safe or safes, E, attached thereto, substantially as shown in the drawing.
In this example of my invention I show the plates D extended in each direction, with a match box or safe, E, on each Side of the burner. These safes may be in any convenient form, and of any style of workmanship,
so that the bracket will present a neat and artistic appearance.
Match-safes (one or more) attached to the bracket-plate in this manner cannot get lost, stolen, or mislaid, and will always be found just where they are most convenient.
I prefer a safe or box on each side of ther burner, of uniform Size and design, as one may be used for matches and the other for the stubs; but I do not coniine myself to any particular number.
The bracket-plate is attached to the wall by means of screws or nails'7 or in any suitable manner, should the friction caused by the bracket-pipe in connecting it with the servicepipe be insufficient to keep the plate in position.
Having thus described my invention, I claim as new and desire to secure by Letters Patent- In combination with the bracket of a gasburner, one or more match safes or boxes attached permanently to the bracket-plate, substantially as shown and described.
