Be it known that Pliner S. KERN, Jr., a citizen of the United States of America, residing at Verden, in the county of Grady and State of Oklahoma, has invented new and useful Improvements in Automobile Curtain Cases, of which the following is a specication.

The object of my invention is to provide a simple and efficient means for folding au-4 tomobile top curtains when not in use or when not applied in the operative position to the top and which under ordinary conditions in accordance with the usual pracf tice are stored under the vehicle seats and which by reason of the limited space thus provided and the weight imposed thereon are subject to more or less injury and deterioration; and furthermore to provide a receptacle or case for top curtains which while preserving the curtains in such a form as not to subject them to the indicated injuries may be readily accessible from the interior of the car both for storing purposes and for removal when the curtains are required, and which will afford no obstruction to the interior of the car or involve any inconvenience to the occupants thereof; and with these objects in view the invention consists in a construction and combination of parts of which a preferred embodiment is shown in the accompanying drawings, wherein Figure l is a perspective view of the curtain case embodying the invention.

The device connsists essentially of a tubular receptacle having a stretcher bar lO terminally carrying segmental spreaders '1l for supporting a shell l2 which may be of leather, fabric or any suitable material litted at its ends with slats 13. The receptacle may be attached to any convenient portion of the car top such as the rear bowt in the plane thereof and extending transversely of the car at the back so as to be within convenient reach of the occupant of the rear vehicle seat, and while no specific means are illustrated in the drawing the attachment may be effected by means of screws, o r nails connecting the stretcher bar 10 and fastening the same to the rear bow.

At the opening between the extremities of the 'spreader members 1l the shell or covering` 12 which is preferably of flexible material is split to form overlapping flaps 14; provided with vfastening devices such as snap buttons 15, and extended longitudinally of the receptacle and carried for example by the heads 13 and the retaining strap members 16 also pr-ovided with fastening means such. as snap buttons 1'?.

lVhen the curtains have been folded or rolled and placed in the receptacle the strap members may be engaged thereover to hold the curtains in place in thecase whereupon the cover flaps may be closed tol exclude dust and conceal the contents of the receptacle and at the same time present a neat appearance within the car.

Having described the invention, what is claimed as new and useful isz- 1. A curtain case for automobiles and similar vehicles for attachment to a top `bow thereof, consisting of a tubular receptacle having a stretcher bar provided with terminal segmental spreaders and enclosed in a shell or cover :fitted with terminal heads, the shell or cover being longitudinally split between the ends of the spreaders to form overlapping closure flaps provided with fastening means.

A. curtain case for automobiles and similar vehicles for attachment to a top bow thereof, consisting of a tubular receptacle having a stretcher bar provided with terminal segmental spreaders and enclosed in a shell or cover fitted with terminal heads and a retainer consisting of strap members carried by the heads for longitudinal extension over the contents of the receptacle.
