Referring more particularly to the drawings, in which the bathing cap consists of an inner layer 10 and an outer layer 11 of waterproof material. These layers 10 and 11 are secured together by rows of stitching which form the seams 13. The lower free edges of the layers 10 and 11 are folded upon themselves, and secured to the layer 10 by a row of stitching 15 which extends around the lower portion of the cap with the exception of a small area at the rear of the cap. A hollow bead 16 is thus formed by the inturned ends of the inner and outer layers 10 and 11, which is adapted to house an elastic band 14. This band 1 1 has its free ends 17 overturned and secured to the band 1 1 by stitches, or 59 other suitable means, to provide stops at the ends of the band and prevent the latter slipping through the'bead 16. Y

Tapes 18 are'secured to the foldedover ends 17 of the band 14sby rows of stitches 19. The inner and outer layers 10 and 11 are not secured together at the rear of the cap between the seams 13, and are separated a short distance upwardly'alongthe seams 13 to form an inner flap 20 and an outer flap 21,'the free edges of which are serrated, as shown at'22.

The bead 16 is interrupted at the-back of the capandterminates at'opposite ends at the edges of the flaps 20 and 21; A strap 23 is stitched or otherwise secured to the outer wall of the bead 16 at each end thereof,'and the strap 23 is adapted to be drawn overthe flaps 20 and 21 when turned downto hold the flap in closed position. i

In the use of the device, the cap is placed upon the head of the wearer with the flaps rearmost, the elastic band 14 is then drawn tightly about the head of the wearer, by means of the tapes 18. When the cap has been drawn sufficiently snug around-the head of the wearer,the tapes 18 may be tied in a bow, asshown in Figure 1. The outer flap 21 is then placed overthese tapes so as to conceal them, and the straps 23vare then tied tightly outwardly ofand against the outer flap to hold the same down and to draw'the head 16 evenly about the head and *over the elastic band 1 1. I

'The'portion of the cap at the back'thereof, together with the - flaps 20 and 21, may be gathered-in as the cap is drawn taut about the head, and the gathered in portion will be held fiat against the head of the tapes 18 and the straps 23 when tied or otherwise secured in place.

In this way, a double securing means is provided for keeping the cap snugly against the head of the wearer, and thus doubly insuring the keeping out of water from wetting the hair of the user of this cap.

It is apparent that the body portion of the cap may be constructed otherwise than with two layers, as the same may be made of one layer of rubber, or of other suitable construction desired, and also that the lines of stitches securing the various parts together may be more or less dispensed with, as desired, and substituted by an adhesive, or by any other suitable fastening means.

It will be obvious that various changes in b the construction, combination and arrangement of parts could be made, which could be used without departing from the spirit of my invention, and I do not mean to limit the invention to such details, except as particularly pointed out in the claims.

Having thus described my invention, what I claim and desire to secure by Letters Patent of the United States is 1. A bathing cap comprising a body portion having its free end turned inwardly upon itself to provide a hollow bead, an elastic band enclosed insaid hollow bead, atape on each free end on said band for drawing said band taut and adapted to be secured together, a flap carried by the body portion to conceal said tapes, and a strap attached to the body portion ateach edge of the flap to engage over and, secure the flap against the body portion.

2. Abathing cap comprising an inner layer and an outer layer, said inner and outer layers having their lower'free ends folded inwardly upon and secured to said inner layer to provide a hollow bead, an elastic band enclosed in said head, and tapes secured to the free ends of said band, said inner and outer layers being separated along their lower free edges at the rear of the cap to provide aninner flap and an outer flap for enclosing '35 said tapes.

3. A bathing cap comprising an inner layer and an outer layer, said inner and outer layers having their lower free ends turned inwardly'upon and secured to said inner lay- 40 er, whereby a hollow bead is provided, an

elastic band enclosed in said bead, tapes secured to the free ends of said band, said inner and outer layers being separated along their lower. free edges at the rear of the cap,

whereby an inner flap and an outer flap is provided, and a strap secured to the outer layer at each side of the flaps and adapted to be. secured together for holding the outer flap against the inner flap.
