Description

H. M. WALSH.
I BLOOMERS.
APPLICATION FILED APR. 6 1921.
1 4126 525 Patented Aug. 22, 1922.
UNITED STATES p PATENT omen,
. narrm mm waasn. or SAN rnm'crs'co, camromcm.
nnoomnns.
To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that I, HAT'rIE Mm WALSH, a citizen of the United States, residing in the city and county of San Francisco and State of California, have invented a new and useful Improvement in Bloomer s, of which the following is a specification.
A further ob'ect of the invention is to provide new an improved bloomers having a crotch opening to provide accessibility for evacuationpurposes, and improved means for coverin' said crotch to protect the inte'r-gluteal old of a wearer.
. A further object is to provide an improved bloom'er having a sanitary protective strip,
the intermediate or contacting portion of which is separable from the garment whereby the same may be: renderedaccessible for cleansing purposes without washing the entire garment. a
I accomplish these andother objects by means of the improved garment disclosed in the drawings forming a art'of the present specification, wheremli e characters-of reference are used to desi ate sim'ilar parts throughout the said speclfication and drawin and in whichig. 1 is a front elevation of my improved under-garment, partly broken away to disclose the construction thereof: and v Fig. '2 is a vertical sectional view of the garment as draped upon the person.
Referring to the drawings the numeral 1 is used to desi nate in general a pair of bloomers or undergarment having a crotch opening 2 which extends, when the garment is draped upon the person, substantially from the crotch opening 2 having edges 3. v
A strip 4 has its ends only secured to the front and back of the bloomers 1 and adjacent the ends of the crotch opening 2 and is arranged to coversaid opening and is further provided with laterally disposed tapes 6 arranged to impart suflicient rigidity transversely of said strip 4 to tend to pre vent the formation and entrance of longierineum to the sacrum, said Specification ofLetters Patent. Patented Aug 22, 1922. Application filed April 6,
1921. seriai'xo. 458,952.
preferably a hook and eye 11, as isclosed in Fig. 1 of the drawings.
In practice, the opening 9 permits passage of the-upper elastic edge 7 over the hlps of a wearer, during removal and replacement of the garment, without exposing the elastic edge 7 to undue stresses and strains.
The crotch opening 2 provides accessibility for evacuation purposes without lowering the garment 1 and thereby stretching the upper elastic edge 7. To protect the intergluteal fold of a wearer from exposure and at the same time prevent the ,edges 3 of the crotch opening 2 vfrom entering the said fold, the strip 4 is provided. The ta or other stiffeningelements 6 are providlfd laterally to prevent the formation and entrance of longitudinal creases or folds into said inter-gluteal fold thereby providing sanitation of said edges and comfort to the wearer.
The crotch opening 2 also permits a ready adjustment of the material of the garment and prevents stretching of the same across the seat when the wearer is in a sitting posture, thereby preventing undue wear of the seat of the garment, while the'strip 4 covers the said crotch opening during such posture to prevent exposure, and contact of tfhedsaid garment with said inter-gluteal The strip 4 may also be used to retain in position a sanitary napkin when required, thereby preventin soiling of the arment and eliminating t e necessit of a elt and other straps for holding sai napkin in position.
The stri 4 being unattached intermediate its secure ends, said intermediate portion, which contacts with said interluteal fold, may be'readily isolated from 0t or portions of the garment and washed daily and independently of said garment and" without moistening the restfof said garment.
ters Patent is: i
1. A garment comprising a pair of bloomers having an opening in the crotch thereof; a separate strip arranged to cover said.
opening and having the ends only thereof secured to the front and rear portions of said garment whereby the intermediate portion of said strip may be isolated from other portions of said garment and washed separately therefrom; and means for imparting suficient rigidity laterally to said strip to tend to prevent creasing and folding' thereof whereby said strip may be pre- Ila-eases vented from entering the inter=gluteal fold of a wearer.
2. A garment comprising a pair of bloomers having an opening in the crotch thereof; a separate strip arranged to cover said opening-and having the ends only thereof secured to the front and rear portions of said garment whereby the intermediate portion of said strip may be separated from said garment and washed separately therefrom; and lateral tapes secured to a portion of said strip to impart suficient rigidity thereto whereby the formation and entrance of longitudinal folds of said strip into the inter-gluteal fold of the wearer may be prevented In witness whereof I hereunto set my signature.
