Specification of Letters Eatent.

Application filed December 8, 1921. Serial No. 520,793.
7'0 0N w/mm 2'? may concern:
Be it known that l. WILLIAM l'lPZRBICR'l Rors'roxu. a citizen of the l'nited States. residing at New York city. county and State of New York. have invented new and useful Improvements in Foilet Articles. of which the following is a specification.
This invention relat s to an improved toilet article and more particularly to a toilet article which may he provided with two compacts of face powder. rouge or the like. there being preferably provided a rouge compact and a face powder compact.
The objects oi the invention are the provision of an improved toilet article whereby there may be provided a rouge compact and a powder compact each associated with a pad or applicator. so that the user may obtain rouge or powder at will: the whole being so assembled as to occupy a minimum space.
Another object is to provide a toilet article wherein the new compacts may be readily positioned and wherein worn out compacts may be easily replaced.
lo the accompanyimc drawings l have shown, for purposes of illustration. one of the many possible embodiments in which my invention may take form. In these drawings. Fig. 1 is an elevational view of the toilet article;
Fig. 2 is a section on the line 2-2 of 1: and
Fig. 3 is an elevation showing the covers opened.
A ring or sleeve 5 or" a length approximately equal to the thickness of two new compacts is provided with covers 6 and 7 hingedly connected at R and 9. "The ring may be circular, as shown in the drawin s, when the inside diameter will be equal to the outside diameter of the compact. Where, however. it is desired to use noncircular compacts, an appropriate shape is given to the ring whereby it may surround and support the periphery of the compacts. Each cover is adapted to be closed down upon the adjacent end of the sleeve or ring 5. The ring 5 is preferably provided with two beads 10 and 11 to limit the closing movement of the covers 6 and 7. The ring is also provided on the side opposite the hinges 8 and 9 with projections 12 and 13 which are adapted to cooperate with recesses 14 and 15 in the cover members 6 and 7 so as to hold the covers in closed position. The inside of each cover is provided with a mirror 16 which may be held in place by a ring 17.
The metal parts of the toilet article above described may be made of any suitable still metal. plated and ornamented as desired.
The reference characters 18 and 19 indicate two compacts of face powder, rouge or the like, preferably one of these compacts being rouge, the other being face powder. Each of these compacts is preferably made of compressed powder enclosed in pervious cloth. and backed up by a sheet of cardboard, or the like. such as is described in my Patent No. 1,388,204. of August 23, 1921. Cloth covered compacts cooperate especially well with the sleeve 5 for the reason that the compact, when forced inside the same, is held by friction between the cloth and the inner surface of the sleeve or ring. The friction between the parts however is not very great, as one can easily replace the compacts when worn out or substitute new compacts.
Powder puffs 20 and 21, one for each compact. are located intermediate the mirrors and the compacts, so that a puff carrying the desired tint is always available for service.
It is apparent that the toilet article is one which will be found convenient in use. The user may open the desired cover and obtain a supply of tltta selected toilet preparation. The compacts may slide in the annular frame to a slight extent when rubbfid by the putt but this causes no harm.
It vill be noted that the article may be made of the minimum amount of material and is also very thin, owing to the economical use oi material and absence of unused space.
What is claimed is:
1. In a toilet article. a frame for carrying two compacts of face powder, rouge or the like, back-to-back in abutting relation, said frame comprising a ring or sleeve cooperable with the compacts to surround and support the periphery thereof, and a cover for each end of the ring or sleeve.
,Q. In a toilet artidle, a frame for carry- M15 ing two com acts of face powder, rouge or the like, bacl to back in abutting relation, said frame comprising a ring or sleeve cooperable with the compacts to surround and support the periphery thereof, cover for each end of the ring or sleeve, and hinges erable with the compacts to surround and and catches for releasably holding the covers support the periphery thereof, a cover for in place. each end of the ring or sleeve, hinges and 10 3. In a toilet article, a frame for carrying catches for releasably holding the covers in if) two compacts of face powder, rouge or the place, and a mirror carried by each cover on like, beck-to-baok in abutting relation, said the inside thereof. frame comprising a ring or sleeve coopr-"f WILLIAM HERBERT ROYSTONE.
