IMPROVEMENT lN COMB INED CHEST-PROTECTORS AND SHIRT-8080M SUPPORTS.
Specification forming part of Letters Patent No. 142,366, dated September 2, 1873; application filed February 15, 1873.
To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that we, JOHN A. ASTON and CHARLES C. MGMURPHY, of Leavenworth, in the county of Leavenworth and State of Kansas, have invented a new and Improved Chest- Protector and Shirt-Front Supporter, of which the following is a specification:
Figure 1 is a front view of my invention. Fig. 2 is a rear view of the same with neckband attached; and Fig. 3 is a vertical transverse section on the line 0 c, Fig. 2.

The object of my invention is to supply to the public a chest-protector made of some stiff material, so that the same may serve also as a support to the shirt-front, and not only keep the chest warm and comfortable, but prevent also the ungainly folds and wrinkles of the shirt-front. My invention consists of a piece of stifi pasteboard or other material covered by linen, flannel, or similar fabric, and suspended around the neck or otherwise applied to the chest.
In the drawing, A represents the chestprotector, with a stiff piece of pasteboard, to, inside, of suitable proportions, and a segmental piece cut off at the upper part, so as to fit to the neck of the wearer. It may be covered with flannel, linen, or any other suitable fabric, but preferably so that the flannel or warming cover may rest on the chest, the linen or outside cover under the shirt-front, so that thereby it is not visible through the same. It. may be attached to the shirt-front at the inside thereof, or suspended from the neck by a band, B, applied to buttons 1) of the lower side of the chest-protector; or any other means of wearing the same may be used, provided it serves the double purpose intended.
Having thus described my invention, I claim as new and desire to secure by Letters Patent- As a new article of manufacture, the combined chest-protector and shirt-front supporter, constructed substantially as and for the purpose described.
