Be it known that I, EDWARD KRAHN, of Milwaukee, in the county of Milwaukee, and in the State of XVisconsin, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Shirts; and I do hereby declare that the following is a full, clear, and exact description thereof.

My invention relates to shirts; and it consists in producing a laced shirt with a shield which maybe adjusted so as to protect the laced opening from either the inside or outside.

In the drawings, Figure 1 is a front view of a shirt embodying my improvement with the shield on the outside; Fig. 2 is a like view of the same with the shield on the inside. Fig. 3 is a detail.

A. is the body of the shirt, which has two flaps, a a, formed by slitting the bosom from the collar down to the points 1 1.

B is a shield, the central lower portion of the shirt between the points 1 1, and from this shield the loop I) may depend.

"he shield, besides its ornamental buttons, has hooks c or eyes 0 for engagement with corres iionding hooks or eyes on the shirt, and is also provided with button-holes (l 011 its upper corners for engagement with buttons (1 or (l according as the shield is behind or before the bosom; but whether the shield be placed behind or in front of the flaps it completely protects the breast of the wearer.

My device, besides increasing the warmth and comfort of the shirt, also has this advantage: that the appearance of: it is completely changed by changing the position of the shield.

I do not confine my invention to any particular style of shirt or pattern of shield, as these may be varied without departing from the spirit of my invention.

Having thus fully described my invention, what I claim as new, and desire to secure by Letters Patent, is-

1. An open-bosom shirt slit in front from the nechband to the points 1 1, forming two flaps, a a, in combination with a bosom-shield permanently secured at said point 1 1, and fastening devices whereby the said bosomshield niay be worn either under the front opening or over it, as desired, substantially as set forth.

2. The combination, with the open-bosom shirt A, having laced flaps c a, eyes a c, and buttons d d5, of the bosoinshield B, permanently secured to the shirt at the points 1 1 only, below the line of the front opening, and having button-holes d d and hooks c c, for adjustment on either side of the laced. opening, substantially as set forth.

In testimony that I claim the foregoing l have hereunto set my hand, at Milwaukee, in the county of Milwaukee and State of \Visconsin, in the presence of two witnesses.
