Be it known that I, Gusravn A. KING, a citizen of the United States, residin at Chicago, in the county of Cook and S tate 01 Illinois, have invented new and useful Improvements in Toys, of which the following is a specification.

This invention relates to toys which are composed of a plurality of separate units capable of being assembled to produce various different figures, and its purpose is to provide a novel and instructive toy of this kind having its units so constructed that a great many different grotesque and other figures and objects may be produced.

In order that the invention may be better understood, reference is had to the accompanying drawings forming a part of this specification, and in said drawings,

Figures 1 to 10 illustrate various figures and objects constructed in accordance with the present invention; Figs. 11 and 12 are elevations showing the main units of the toy, and Fig. 13 is a cross-section of the unit shown in Fig. 11.

Referring specifically to the drawings the main units of the toy consist of a number of spherical members 15 and peg-like members 16. The units 15 are provided with two apertures 17 extending completely therethrough and intersecting each other at a right angle. The unit 16 is termed midway between its ends with a spherical enlargement 18, and said unit is in the nature of a double-ended peg, any one or both of its ends being adapted to be used.

The toy also includes a base 19 for supporting the various figures or objects. Other units are also provided which will. be described in connection with the figures or objects to be constructed.

Fig. 1 shows the units 15 and 16 assembled to form a ladder mounted in upright position on the base 19. The units 15 and 16 are arranged in alternate order to form the side bars of the ladder. said units being connected in assembled relation by inserting the pegs 16 into proper ones of the holes 17 of the spheres 15. The rungs of the ladder are each formed by two pegs and a sphere therebetween, the pegs being inserted into the spheres of the ladder side bars.

Fig. 3 shows an ordinary cross made up solely of the units 15 and 16.

Fig. 1 shows a grotesque representation of a human figure made up of the units 15, 16 and 20, and having an additional unit 21 for the head of the figure.

Fig. 5 shows what I have termed a totem pole, the same being made up of the units 15, 16, 20 and 21, and additional units 22 and 23, the former being the representation of a horses head and the latter the representation of a bird.

Fig. 6 shows a horse and rider made up of the units 15, 16, 20, 21 and 22.

Fig. 7 shows a Whirligig or see-saw consisting of uprights constructed of the units 15 and 16, supporting a swinging or rocking figure made up of the units 15, 16, 20, 21 and 22. The pegs loosely oin this figure to the uprights so that that figure may be spun around or rocked.

Fig. 8 shows a hall tree at the top of which is mounted the unit 21. The upright portion as well as the horizontal arms of this figure are composed of the units 15 and 16.

Each of the figures or objects hereinbefore described is mounted on a base 19 having top apertures into which the pegs at the bottom of the figures are stuck.

Fig. 9 shows the units 15 and 16 arranged to form a spinning top. a depending peg at the center of the figure being the point on which the top may be spun, and at the center of the figure is an upstanding peg supporting the unit 21.

Fig. 10 shows the units 15 and the unit 20 strung on a cord to form a necklace.

The foregoing illustrate only a few of the figures or objects which can be constructed out of the units 15 and 16. and the auxiliary units associated therewith. and it will be understood that various other auxiliary units may be provided to increase the adaptability of the toy for the construction of different figures or objects. The units will be painted in different colors to increase the attractiveness of the figures. The auxiliary units 20. 21, 22 and 23 will have holes in suitable places for attachment to the peglike units 16.

The pegs 16 are tapered to prevent 1oose= ness of the parts fitted thereto, and for the same reason the holes 17 may be made tapered. The pegs 16 can also be longitudinally bored to permit stringing on a wlre or cord in the same manner asthe spheres 15.

I claim: A figure toy comprising a plurality of separate sets of units which are detachably connected, one set of units consisting of spheres and the other set consisting of 10 double-ended pegs, the spheres having holes having spherical enlargements intermediate 15.
