DEVICE FOR SUPPORTING' COOKING UTENSILS.
Be it known that I, -FRANK WV. CANTLE- BERRY, citizen of the United-States, residing at Sisquoc, in the countytof Santa Barbara and State of California, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Devices for Supporting Cooking Utensils, of which the following is a specification.
This invention relates to devices-for supporting cooking .vessels and has as its primary object to provide a device especially adapted for camp use, in supporting pans, kettles, portable ovens, and,1n fact, any and: all types of cooking vessels which 1t may bedesired to employ. I
A further object of the invention 1s. to
provide a device for the purpose stated so constructed that the various vessels may be.
postioned upon the standard of the device at various elevations so as to be more or less closely positioned with relation to the flames, depending upon the commodity being cooked and the variations in temperature conditions found 'most desirable in standard at various elevations while supporting their respective utensils and without requiring the loosening and tightening of set screws or the manipulation of other devices for effecting such adjustment which it would be impracticable to manually grasp or otherwise manipulate because of proXimity to the burning fuel.
Another object of the invention is to provide a device for the purpose stated which may be folded or otherwise collapsed to compact form when not in use and when being transported so that under such conditions it will occupy a minimum space and will not be cumbersome.
In the drawings: Figure 1 is a perspective view of the device.
Figure 2 is a perspective view of one of the supporting members.
In the drawings the numeral 1 indicates the standard of the device, which standard is preferably in the nature of a cylindrical rod provided with a lower pointed end 2 which may be driven into the ground. In order that blows may be struck upon the Specification of Letters Patent.
upper end ofthe standard for'thepurpose of driving its lower end-into the ground and without likelihood of battering down or burring the-upper end of the standard, the
standard is reduced in diameter at its upper end as indicated by the numeral 3, and this reduced portion is threaded, as clearly shown endofthe head 5 against the shoulder 4:,
blows may be struck against the upper face of the head without likelihood of mutilating the threads bywhich the head is re-;

tained inplace upon the standard so that removal of the head will not be at any time 7 interfered with should it be "desired tore-g "move one or more of the utensil supporting members from the standard or fit other members to the said standard.
I have found it desirable to provide for, mounting of the supporting members upon the standard in such manner that the members may be readily adjusted vertically along the standard so as to support the utensils at various elevations and may also be rotatably adjusted about the standard to "position the various utensils more or less directly over the burning, fuel or to shift the utensils from one side to another to obtain the most favorable results under varying conditions and with these objects in view I have provided devices for connectf ing the supporting members with the stand ard. Each of the supporting devices includes, in additionto-the element provided for adjustable engagementwith the standard of the device, an arm which "is con-. nected with and extends from the said ele-' r 70" stood that due to the abutment" of the lower 1 I is fitted through the ends of the plates Q l and through the said lug 25 and the lug at its end is turned downwardly to provide a nose 29 and has its upper side rounded as indicated by the numeral 30. The arm 23 likewise at its inner end is provided with a nose 31 and when the arm 23 is in hori-' zontal position the'nose 31 will abut against the nose 29 and the arm wlll be supported in said posltlon although, of course, it may be swung upwardly'upon the pivot 28 to ex tend beside the standard 1.
It will be understood that the supporting member as a whole may be rotatably swung about the'standard as a centerand that it may be shifted upwardly upon the standard or permitted to lower, and in order that the arm may be adjusted in this manner, with out likelihood of burning ones fingers, an
adapting the rod to be made use of as a barbecue hook if desired.
Having thus described-the invention, what is claimed as new is:
In a device of the class described, a standard, a closed collar slidably and rotatab'ly fitted upon the standard and adapted to be supported at posit-ions of vertical adjustment thereon through the binding engagement of its wall against the surface of the standard, the collar having a shank portion projecting outwardly therefrom and terminating in a downwardly extending portion having a shoulder, spaced members projecting from the opposite sides of the said portion and pivoted thereon, and a supportingarm mounted between the spaced members and having adownwardly projecting portion located adjacent to and providing a shoulder for abutment against the first mentioned shoulder whereby to limit the downward swinging movement of the arm upon its pivot, the arm being movable in an upward direction upon its pivot to ex tend beside the standard in folded position. Intestimony whereof I affix my signature.
