UNITED STATES PATENT OFFICE.
JAMES M. GORNYN, OF PHILADELPHIA, PENNSYLVANIA.
sTovE ATTACHMENT.
Application filed November 16, 1912.
To all whom it may concern Be it known that I, JAMES M. CORNYN, a citizen of the United States, residing at Philadelphia, in the county of Philadelphia and State of Pennsylvania, have invented new and useful Improvements in Stove Attachments, of which the following is a specificat-ion.
This invention relates to stove attachments and more particularly to shelf attachments for oven doors.
One of the principal objects of the invention is to provide a shelf bracket which may be conveniently mounted upon the inside of the oven door and adjusted horizontally so as to insure proper entrance of the shelf into the oven.
Another object of the invention is to provide a bracket and shelf support which may be vertically adjustable with relation to the oven door so as to secure the proper position of the pan or other article supported upon the shelf within the oven for top or bottom baking.
A further object of the invention is to provide a simple and efficient device of this character for supporting pans in such a manner that they may be readily withdrawn from the oven when the door is open so that the contents of the pan such as roast-s may be conveniently basted without danger of burning the hands.
Further objects of this invention will ap-v pear as the following specific description is read in connection with the accompanying drawing which forms a part of this application, and in which:
Figure 1 is a perspective view of the device showing the same attached to an open oven door. Fig. 2 is a vertical section through the same. Fig. 3 is a perspective view of the bracket. Fig. 4 is a perspective view of the bracket arm employed.
Referring more particularly to the drawing, 1 represents a stove of ordinary construction having an oven 2 closed by the door 3 which is hinged to the stove at 4. Secured to the inner side of the door as will be hereinafter described is a cruciform bracket 5 having its horizontal arms 6 provided with longitudinal slots 7 to receive the securing bolt-s 8 whereby the bracket may be adjusted horizontally on the door to Specification of Letters Patent.
Patented Aug. 12,1913. Serial No. 731,737.
insure proper entrance of the tray or shelf into the oven as will be presently understood. The vertical arm 9 of the bracket is provided with a pair of apertured ears 10 beneath which are formed notches or recesses 11 for a purpose to be hereinafter described.
The bracket arm shown in Fig. 4 comprises a platform or shelf supporting member 12 having an aperture 13 at its outer end to receive a pivoting bolt 14 which holds the shelf 15 on the member 12 free to rotate. The rear end of the member 12 is provided with a headed stud 16 adapted to engage the apertures in the cars 10 and secured to the underside of the arm 12 is a web-brace 17 adapted to enter the notches 11 formed below the ears. By providing a bracket and shelf of this character and attaching the same to the oven door all parts of the material to be roasted or baked may be subjected to the most intense heat in the oven or in other words may be evenly browned or cooked all over, for the shelf may be raised or lowered upon the bracket and conveniently rotated upon the bracket arm, while the bracket itself is horizontally adjustable upon the oven door.
lVith a device of this character it will also be noticed that it is not necessary to move the pan until the contents thereof have been. thoroughly cooked thus permitting the cook to properly haste the material without handling the pan.
What is claimed is A pan supporting attachment for oven doors comprising a cruciform bracket having longitudinal slots in its horizontal arms, separated and apertured ears carried by and projecting from the vertical arm, said vertical arm having recesses below the said cars, a bracket arm having a headed stud at one end to engage the apertured ears, a brace carried by the bracket arm and adapted to engage the bracket within the recesses and a shelf rotatably mounted upon the outer end of the bracket arm.
In testimony whereof I affix my signature in presence of two witnesses.
