Description
AMOS C. RODGERS, OF SUFFIELD, CONNECTICUT, ASSIGNOR TO HIMSELF AND JAMES A. HAMILTON, OF SAME PLACE.
iFdPRCVEFdENT ll SASl-l-FASTENERS Specification forming part of Letters Patent No. ILLSSS, dated July 29, 1873; application tiled May l 1873.
To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that I, AMOs C. RODGERS, of Snfeld, Hartford county, State of Connecticnt, have invented a VVindow-Sash Supporter and Fastener, of which the following is a specification The object of my invention is to lock a window-sash when it is lowered, and to retain it at any desired altitude, by one device, consistin g,- oi' aspring-slide, A, adapted to an inclined socket, B, let into and secured to the edge of the window-frame, the said slide having' an arm, a, passing through and being guided by a slotted projection, l), on the socket, and having,` a rubber pad, e, for bearing against the ed ge of the sash, and a projection, j', for locking` the sash, all as fully described hereafter, and as illustrated in the sectional Views, Figures l and 2, of the accompanying drawing. The slide A bears against the inclined back h of the socket B, a spiral spring, t', extending from a pin or hook on the socket to the upper end ot the slide, and tending,` to constantly de` press the latter, and to consequently force itsv pad e against the ed ge ot' the sash.
Any attempt to lower the sash will also draw the slide A downward, and consequently force its pad e outward against the edge of the sash, and thus arrest and hold the latter; but on raising the sash the tendency will also be to raise and push back the slide, so that no resistance will be offered oy the same.
When it is desired to lower the sash, lips a: x on the arm a of the slide and slotted projection b are simply seized between the thumb and finger, as shown in Fig. 2, and pressed toward each other, which will raise and draw back the slide and its pad e from the edge of the sash, and permit the latter to be freely lowered, the parts being restored to their original positions by the action of the spring t', when the pressure upon the lipsxis relieved.
When the sash is lowered toits full extent, as shown in Fig. 1, the projection f of the slide enters a recess, m, in the edge of the said sash, and serves as a bolt to prevent the raising` of the latter from the outside of the window.
I claiinl A spring-slide, A, provided with a pad, e, for bearing against the edge of a sash, and with a-projection, f, for locking the sash, in combination with an inclined and slotted socket, B, adapted to the slide and secured to the window-traine, all substantially as specilied. l l
In testimony whereof I have signed my name to this speciiication in the presence of two subscribing witnesses.
AMOS C. RODGERS.
