HAT lHOLDER.
Application filed August 9,
To ail whom t may concern :Be it known that I, Jurrie P. GLENN, a citizen of the United States, and a resident of Fort Pierce, in the county of St. Lucie and State of Florida, have invented a new and Improved Hat Holder, of which the following` is a full, clear, and exact description.
This invention relates to improvements in hat holders. an object of the invention being to provide a device of this character adapted to be secured to the under face of an automobile top and to coveniently engage the brim of a hat to support the hat in inverted position.
A further object is to provide a device of the character stated, which will be neat and attractive in appearance, which will take, up very little room, which will be strong und durable in use and comparatively inexpensive to manufacture.
lVith these and other objects in view, the invention consists in certain novel features of construction 'and combinations and arrangements of parts to be mor-n fully here-V inafter described and pointed out in the claims.
In the accompanying` drawings;
Figure l is a plan view of my improved holder, the holder being` illustrated in closed position;
figure 2 is a view similar to Figure l illustrating the holder' in open position to receive a hat;
Figure 3 is an enlarged view in sect-ion on the line 3 3 of Figure l, illustrating` the manner of use of the holder; and
Figure et is an enlarged view in section on the line 4-4 of Figure l.
Referring in detail to the drawings, l represents the top of an automobile, to the under face of which, my in'iproved hat l'iolder is attached.
`The hat holder comprises a substantially oval sheet of material 2, having its edges secured to the top l. in any approved manner. Uponthe face of this oval sheet 2, I secure a split oval ring 3 of any appropriate kind of cloth. The ring` is preferably of the same kind of cloth as the top of the car and the outer edge ofthe ring 3, throughout substantially one half of its periphery is secured to the outer edge of the sheet 2 by tape 4f..
The edges of the sheet 2 and ring 3 are also taped, as indicated at 5, to add to the Specific-ation of Letters Patent. pate/mtg@ play. 2L 192% 1921. Serial N0. 490,920.
attractive appearance of the holder. The other half of the periphery of the member 3 carries snap fastener socket members 6 engageable with snap fastener stub members 7 on the sheet 2, he member 3 is radially split, as indicated at 8, and the adjacent ends 9 of the member 3 are adapted to overlap and be removably joined together by snap fastener members such as 10. L
The sheet 2 and the member 3 are both lined with any suitable material, indicated by the reference numeral 11.
It is to be understood that when a hat is to be inserted in the holder, the adjacent edges 9 of the member 3 are uncoupled, the snap fastener members 6 and 7 are disengaged' and the ends of the member 3 are swung back to permit the introduction of a hat such as 12 between the sheet 2 and the member 3. The ends of the member 3 are then returned to and secured in the position `lhrstnited in Figure l, so that the brim 13 of the hat 12 is embraced and supported by the annular member as seen in Figure 4. The crown of the hat depends through the openingl l-l in the ring shaped member 3.
For convenience of attachment, I have illustrated the snap fastener members 7 as carried by tabs l", which are sewed to the lining of the sheet 2, but Vobviously the details of construction might be considerably varied without departing from my invention and hence I do not wish to limit myself to the precise details set forth, but shall consider myself at liberty to make such slight changes and alterations as fairly fall within the spirit and scope of the appended claims.
I claim:
l. A device of the character described including a flat sheet of material adapted to be secured to a support, a split ring of flexible material having one portion of its outer edge permanently secured to the sheet and the remainder of its outer edge removably secured thereto. Y
2. A device of the character described including a Hat sheet of material adapted to he secured to a support. a split ring of iieX- ible material having one portion of its outer edge permanently secured to the sheet and the remainder of its outer edge removably secured thereto. the ends of said split ring overlapping and devices removably connectinfr said ends.
The combination with an automobile top, Aof a flat sheet of material secured to `and interlocking with said first-mentioned Linee@ securing device whereby `the brim of :1 hat muy be confined Abetween the sheet and ring.
ll. A hat holder comprising a sheet of l0 flexible material, and asplt ring of ilexible material having its outer edges secured to the sheet.
