WILLIAM It. WINTER, OF CEDAR FALLS, IOWA.
IMPROVEMENT IN MOPS, WRI NGERS, AND SCRUBBERS COMBINED.
Specification forming part ofLetters Patent No. 140,566., dated July 1, 1873; application filed May 10, 1873.
To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that I, WILLIAM R. WINTER, of Cedar Falls, in the county of Black Hawk and State of Iowa, have invented a new and valuable Improvement in Mop, Mop-Wringer, and Scrubbing-Brushes; and I do hereby declare that the following is a full, clear, and
- exact description of the construction and operation of the same, reference being had to the annexed drawings making a part of this specification, and to the letters and figures of reference marked thereon.
Figure 1 of the drawings is a representation of a plan view of my combined mop, mop-wringer, and scrubbing-brush. Fig. 2 is a sectional view of the same.
' This invention has relation to means for scrubbing and cleaning floors and pavements, and it consists in the construction and novel arrangement of the devices constituting a combined scrubbingbrush, mop, and mopwringer, as hereinafter described.
In the accompanying drawings the letter A designates the head to which the handle B is attached. This head consists of a frame having the triangular ends a, the transverse beam 1), and rollers E E. The triangular ends are formed by properly securing together the vertical rear post d, the horizontal bar a, and the oblique cheek-bars g; or they may be cast together. The handle B is secured to a shaft, h, which is journaled in the cheek-bars g. It is capable of being reversed in position on these journals, so that in one case it will rest in the steadying notch kin the upper edge of the transverse bar I). as indicated in the drawings, a pin, I, being introduced to secure the handle to this transverse bar. On the other hand when the handle is reversed its projection or toe m is designed to engage with a spring-catch, n, which is secured to the bar I), and extends downward therefrom. The posts d extend below the horizontal bars or braces e, and serve for the attachment of the scrubbing-brush O, suitable perforations 19 being provided in the back of the scrubbing-brush for this purpose. As
' the brush wears away it may be adjusted down on the posts and secured by means of pins or set-screws. A pan, D, having its forward wall q somewhat inclined upward and forward, is attached by hooks or arms 1' to the horizontal bars 0. This pan serves to hold the water or suds. To the forward ends of the cheek-bars g are journaled the ends of the mop-roller E, which is slightly grooved in one side, as at s, and is provided with a wire, t, or other means for securing the mop-cloth in the groove. Thereby it is enabled to roll smoothly on the roller, the doubling of the cloth over the wire being in the groove. To the ends of the journals u of the roller E are secured the grooved wheels F, which are provided with rubber tires '0. Above the journalseats of the roller E the cheek-bars are slotted longitudinally at w, an opening, being made into each slot for convenience in introducing the journal-blocks z, which receive the journals of the movable wringer-roller E, located over and somewhat in rear of the moproller. The edges of the slot to are tongued at a. for engagement with the grooved ends a of the journal-blocks z. Projections or studs 0 are formed, both on the journal-blocks and on the upper ends of the slots w, to serve as seats for the ends of the spiral springs G, which serve to keep the wringer-roller E properly pressed against the mop-cloth, when the latter is passing between the two rollers E and E, in the wringing operation. hen the mop-cloth is extended for use the scrubbing-brush may be kept down upon it to prevent it from being rolled upon the roller E until required. In using the scrubbing-brush the handle is preferably reversed to engage with the spring-catch of the transverse bar.
What I claim as new, and desire to secure by Letters Patent, is-
The combination of the mop-roller E,wringer-roller E, water-pan D, and scrubbing-brush (l, substantially as specified.
In testimony that I claim the above I have hereunto subscribed my name in the presence of two witnesses.
WILLIAM R. WINTER.
