Specification of Letters Patent.
' Patented Feb. '7, 1922.
Application filed February 21, 1921. Serial No, 446,552.
To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that I, EDWARD J. BARKDOLL, citizen of the United States, residing at Garrison, in the county of Benton and State of Iowa, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Bridles, of which the following is a specification.
My invention relates to bridles, and an object is to provide a construction which will permit the bridle to be adjusted so that it can be readily adapted to any sized head of horse and in which fiat surfaces only come into contact with the head of the horse in order to avoid injury to the animal. Another object is to provide a bridle in which by the removal of a single screw or holding element, the leather parts can be readily detached for repair or can be replaced by new parts when the old parts are worn out.
The full objects and advantages of my invention will appear in connection. with the detailed description, and the novel features embodied in my inventive idea will be particularly pointed out in the claim.
In the accompanying drawings,-
Fig. 1 is a side view of a portion of a bridle which embodies my improved construction. Fig. 2 is a view in section on the line 22 of Fig. 1. Fig. 3 is a side elevational view of a metallic attaching member.
Referring to the construction shown in the drawings, it is to be noted that Fig. 1 shows one side of the portion of the bridle to which my improvement is applied, it being understood that the other side is an exact duplication. The numeral 10 designates a leather cheek piece to the lower end of which is attached a rectangular metal member 12 to which is attached the nose band 14, and a strap 16 to which the customary bit is attached. A blinder 18 is secured to the cheek piece 10, the latter at its upper end being attached to the lower arm 20 of a metal mem ber whlch also has an upper arm 22 connected to the arm 20 by a vertical portion 24. A crown piece 26 has a straplike end 28 which passes under the arm 22 and is secured by a buckle 30. The forward ends of the arms 20 and 22 are connected by a screw 32 to which one end of a brow band 34 is attached, the middle of this brow band being provided with a loop 36 through which passes a leather support 38 for the blinders. gral with the vertical portion 34; of the metal member is a rearwardly extending loop portion 40 to which the throat latch 42 is attached. The loop portion 40 and the metal parts connected therewith are rounded so as not to unduly wear the leather.
The operation and advantages of my invention will be readily understood from the foregoing description.
again secured in place by means of the Inte- By removing the. screw 10, the leather parts when worn out screw. r
I claim g A bridle comprising a check piece, a metal member having a lower arm to which said In testimonywhereof I hereunto afiix my EDWARD J. BARKDOLL;
