parts may be stamped out of plate metal or sheet metal and which, when assembled and applied as a finished handle, form a strong and durable construction.

Another object of the invention is to pro vide a handle for burial caskets in which many of the parts of the handle may be economically stamped out of metal plates'or sheet metal, and in which the manually enageable part or handle bar of the handle 1s connected to and retained in connection with the pivoted members by means of novel and improved construction.

An additional object of the invention is to provide a handle of the character and for the purpose stated, or for other uses, in which the pivoted members of the handle are connected to and made to co-operate with their supports by a novel and improved construction and arrangement.

With the foregoing and other objects in view, I have produced an improved burial casket handle, and have illustrated the same in the accompanying drawings, in which Fig. 1 is an assembled view of one em bodiment of the invention.

As illustrated, the supporting members which are secured to the wall of the burial casket are formed of plate'metal or sheet metal stamped or pressed to provide an outer wall 1 of the desired size and design, and a flange 2 bordering the wall 1 and ar ranged so that the edge of said flange bears and fits against the wall of the casket to which the handle is applied. The handle may be secured to the wall by fasteners 3.

The wall 1 of each supporting member is cut to form an opening and the r material above and at'the sides of the opening is pressed outwardly to form a flange 4, bordering the opening and functioning to cooperate with'the pivoted" member of the handle as will hereinafter appear. The. material at the lower side of the opening so formed-isutilizedto form'an upwardly'extending tongue, the extremity of which is curved as shown at 5 in order to extend around the inner side of a pin or'small rod 6 by which the pivoted member of the handle I is supported.

Each pivoted member of the handle is also composed of plate metal or sheetmetal stamped or pressed to form an outer wall 7, side walls 8, a lower end wall 9, and a.

curved upper wall 10 united to the outer wall by a wall portion 11 formed approximately at right angles to the outer wall 7 and con stituting a shoulderto bear against and cooperate with the fiange A when the casket is being carried or supported by the handles, as will readily be understood by reference to Fig. 3. The upper portion of the members 7 extends into the opening formed in the co-operating supporting member, and the tongue 5 is between the side walls 8. The

When the casket is supported by the handles, the shoulders 11 contact with the flanges & and by cooperation with the pins or rods 6 form a construction by which the casket may be supported and carried.

The manually engageable part or handle bar 12 is connected to the pivoted supporting members by convenient and eflicient means. As shown, the side walls 8 of the pivoted members of the handle are cut to 7 form recessesor notches in which the handle bar 12 is seated. The material of the side walls 8,-at the sides of the notches, is bent inwardly in the form of tongues 13. Retaining clips 14 pass partly around the handle bar 12 at each pivoted support and extend between the bar and the tongues 13. The ends said clips bent against in the handle bar in the tongues 13 as shown, thus, securely ho1d- I osition.
