To all whom it may concern:

Be it known that I, MARGARET H. BROS- NAN, a citizen of the United States, residing at NVashington, inthe District of Columbia, have invented new and useful Improvements in Vanity-Cases for Personal lVear, of which the following is a specification.

My present invention has for its object the provision of a vanity case for personal wear, characterized by its simulation of a rose or other flower and by its construction which lends itself to the attachment of the device to the corsage of a ladys dress and to the gaining of ready access to the interior of the receptacle comprised in the device without separation of the parts of the device, for various purposes.

To the attainment of the foregoing the invention consists in the improvement as hereinafter described and definitely claimed.

In the accompanying drawings, hereby made a part hereof Figure 1 is a plan view showing my novel vanity case in close state.

Fig. 3 is an enlarged diametrical section on line 3-3 of Fig. 1 illustrating the relative arrangement of the receptacle body and the cover member complementary thereto when said cover member is in closed position.

Fig. 4 is an elevation of the hinge employed in the connection of the cover member to the receptacle body.

Fig. 5 comprises detail views of the fastener members which are preferably included in the device.

Similar numerals of reference designate corresponding parts in all of the views of the drawings.

Among other elements my novel vanity case or analogous device comprises a receptacle body 1, of pasteboard, and a cover member2 also of pasteboard. The receptacle body 1 is circular in form, and the cover member 2 is flanged as indicated by 3 to take over the side wall of and tightly close the receptacle body.

A hinge 1 is employed for the permanent connection of the cover member 2 to the receptacle body 1. The said hinge 4 comprises leaves 5 of thin sheet metal and a pintle 6; the leaves being equipped with barbs 7 adapted to be pushed through the side walls of the body 1 and cover member 2 and bent against the inner sides of said side walls. This mode of hinge connection is rendered feasible by the pasteboard character of the elements 1 and 2 and is economical in that the hinge is connected of itself, and is, at the same time strong and durable. The receptacle body 1 may be utilized to contain face powder and a powder puff indicated by 8, or may be utilized as a purse for the carrying of coins or the like. When the receptacle body 1 is to be used to carry powder and a powder pull the cover member 2 will be equipped with a mirror 9, the said mirror 9 being retained in the cover member 2 through the medium of an annulus 10, held by frictional contact against the side wall or flange 3 of the cover member. WVhen deemed expedient the cover member 2 may be detachably fastened in close position through the medium of the snap fastener members 11 and 12, best shown in Fig. 5. The fastener member 11 is formed of thin sheet metal, is equipped with a teat 13 and is also provided with barbs 14:, designed to be pressed through the side wall of the 1 receptacle body and bent against the inner side thereof to strongly attach the member of itself to the receptacle body. The fastener member 12 is provided with barbs 15 for the connection thereof to the side wall or flange 3 of the cover member 2, and is also provided with a spring socket 16 complementary to the teat 13 and ada ted to be pressed over and removed from t e teat 13 by the exercise of a little stress.

Surrounding and attached by appropriate adhesive substance to the outer side of the receptacle body 1 is an annular fabric body 17 by which are carried a plurality of artificial leaves 18 which preferably simulate rose leaves. Manifestly the pasteboard character of the receptacle body 1 readily lends itself to the economical and strong adhesive connection of the said fabric body 17. It will also be noted here that the fabric body 17 carries a stem 19 colored and embellished in simulation of a rose stem or the stem of any other flower.

In addition to the elements named my improvement includes an artificial flower 20 which is illustrated as simulating a wild rose but which may be made to simulate any other open flower without affecting my invention. The fabric portions 21 and 22 simulate the petals and the pollen, respectively, of the flower, and they are attached I to and carried by a fabric body 23 which rests in cap-like manner over the cover memher 2 and is connected thereto by appropri-' ate adhesive or other means compatible with the purpose of my invention. The said body '23 is also made and colored to simulate the portion of a flower by which the petals are carried. I prefer for obvious rea 'sons'to employ adhesive for the connection ofthe fabric flower body 23 to the cover member2, and it will be readily understood that the pasteboard character of the cover 7 'member "2 readily lends said cover member to said mode of attachment It will be'manifest from the foregoingthatr'my novel device is adapted to be worn as an article of personal adornment on the V corsage of a ladys dress; also, that when so worn the device presents the appearance of nothing-save a flower and a group of leaves on a'common stem with'the flower. When however, the wearer of the device desires to powder her nose or other portions of her face, the device may be readily removed from the corsage and using the stem 19 as a handle, the device may be conveniently opened for the "removal of the powder puff and may be held in proper position for the user to view her face or a portion-thereof in the mirrorl). Then after the completion of the toilet operation the powder puif may be replaced in. the receptacle body 1, and the 7 cover member maybe closed, after which readily gained thereto When occasion d e mands.

Having described my invention, what I claim and desire to secure by Letters-Patent,is: V 1

A device for personal wear comprising a receptaclebody of past'eboard, a flanged cover member of pasteboard, a hinge joining the receptacle body and the cover member and connected of itself to the walls thereof,- a fabric body surrounding the receptacle body and connected'by adhesive thereto and a provided with portions simulating leaves and with a portion simulating a flower stem,

and a cap-like fabric body arrangedover and connected by adhesive to the cover member and provided with portions simulating the petals of a flower and other likebody simulating the portion ofa' flower by which the petals are'carried. i
