- This invention relates to blocks or slabs preferably composed ofk cement, concrete or similar material and which are adapted to be used in the construction of the walls of buildings and roofs of buildings, and the object of the invention is to provide a block or Vslab of the class and for the purpose specified which is provided with one or more hook-shaped 'spring attaching devices by means of which the block or slab may be con* nected with and suspended from 'a suitable support; a further object being to provide means for reinforcing the block or slab ,and with these and other objects in view ⁇ the invention consists in a building block or slab which is simple in construction and eliicient in use and which is constructed as hereinafter described and claimed.V

To all whom t may concern j Be 1t knownA that I, R101-mno MURRAY, a
citizen of the'United States, and residing at New York, in the county of New York and State of New York, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Building Blocks or Slabs, of which the following is a specification, such as will enable those skilled in the art to whichit appertains to make and use the same. y
This invention relates to blocks or slabs preferably composed ofk cement, concrete or similar material and which are adapted to be used in the construction of the walls of buildings and roofs of buildings, and the object of the invention is to provide a block or Vslab of the class and for the purpose specified which is provided with one or more hook-shaped 'spring attaching devices by means of which the block or slab may be con* nected with and suspended from 'a suitable support; a further object being to provide means for reinforcing the block or slab ,and with these and other objects in view `the invention consists in a building block or slab which is simple in construction and eliicient in use and which is constructed as hereinafter described and claimed.V
The invention is fully disclosed in the following specication, of which the accompanying drawing forms a part, in which the separate parts of my improvement are designated` byy suitable reference characters in each of the Views, and in which Figure 1 is an outside view of a part of the wall of aibuilding which involves my improved blocks or slabs, partV of the construction beingbroken away and in section;

In Figs. 1 and 2, I have indicated for illustrative purposes, a part of the foundation 10 of a building, rat "l1 the upright frame members and, in the practice of my invention, I secure to the members 1 1 ka plurality of longitudinal and spaced strips 12 withV which my improved building blocks or slabs A13 are connected.L j
In Fig. 3 of the drawing I have shown in detail one of the blocks or slabs 18 which is approximately rectangular in form, and one side wall thereof is provided with a tongue 14 while the other side wall is provided with a groove 15 adapted to receive the tongue 14 of an adjacent block or slab in the construction of a wall. The lower faceofthe block or slab 13 is provided with a tongue 16whilc the upper face thereof is provided with a groove 17 adapted to receive the tongue 16 of the yblock or slab placed thereon.
Embedded in the block or slab 13 is a rectangular rod-like reinforcing frame 18,' which is embedded in the block or slab approximately centrally thereof as is illustrated in F igj2 of the drawing, and the side and ends of the frame 18 are connected by a wire mesh or other openworli construction 19, which adds to the reinforcing qualities of thefraine 18. The central portion of the frame 18 of the top member 20 thereof is bent downwardly and outwardly through one face of 'the block or slab 13 as, shownat 21 in Fig. 2, and that part of the framey which protrudes through the inner face of the block or slab is bent downwardly into a' yoke-shaped spring'hook device 22 having a shoulder portion 23, which is adapted to pass beneath the strips 12 of the framework of a building to securely hold and lock the blocks or slabs 13 in position. Y
It will be apparent that, in the construction of a wall of a building, the blocks or slabs 13 are placed one upon another and one beside the other in which operation the tongues 14T- 16 pass into the grooves 15-17 respectively in the adjacent blocks or slabs in the manner illustrated in Figs. 1 and 2 of the drawing, and in this operation the yokeshaped'spring hook devices 22 onk eac-h of the blocks or slabs is passed over the spaced strips 12 in the manner illustrated in Fig. 2. It will be understood that I am not neces-` sarily limited to the use of one spring hook device 22 on each block as any number of these devices may be employed depending largely on the size of the block or slab and a suitable reinforcement will be provided to suit the size and general structure of the block slab., and, of course. these blocks or slabs may be used as 'facings in which event they will be made comparatively thin and, in other instances, the walls may. be. conf,

.The hook devices 3l are of the saine general` forni and construction as the hook devices 22 shown in Fig.` 2 of the drawing, and in the use of the blocks or `slabs28 in constructing,` the roof of a building, the yokeshaped spring hook devices 31 arelpassed over,` the strips 25 to lock the blocks or, slabs in connection therewith, and these blocks or slabsare overlapped in the usual manner andas indicated at 33 in Fig. 5 ot the drawling,land the spring catch devices 32 ofi one slab passes over and engages the upper end4 iortion of the block or slab therebeneatli.
Ihe first or lower tier of blocks 0r slabs 28 indicated at 34 in Fig. 5` of the drawing, or the freeedges thereof, are reinforced and held in position by a strip 35 secured to the framework 2li oif the roof and over whichv the spring catch devices 3 2 ot the lower tier' otblocks or slabs28V pass.
In the constructions shownin ligs.v 1 to- 5 inclusive, the blocks or slabs are shown square or rectangular in foi'nibut, of course, my invention is not limited to this extent as the blocks or slabs may be made of, any desired shape or form, and` in Fig, 6 Ihave shown at 36 a V-shaped block or slab for use' in corner` construction and at 37 in said tigiire I have shown an arc-shaped block or slab used in the construction of columns, rounded corners, etc. i Y
My invent-ion is not necessarily limited to any specific use of theblocks or slabs, or
to that use herein illustrated, nor am I necessarily limited to any speciiic iorni ot rein forcement inrsa'id .blocks or slabs, the distinctive feature of the invention being the provision otthe spring hook-shaped devices vhich not only serve to support the blocks orslabs but lock said blocks or slabs against inward, outward or upward movements, as well as serving to aid the supporting of the separate blocks or slabs, and said blocks oi' slabs may be overlapped or interlocked in any desired manner to form 'a neatand 'fin-l ished wallo;` root construction, and various changes `in and mod ications of the construction hereinushownV and described, may
