of Caldwell, in the county of Essex and State of New Jersey, have invented a new and Improved Handbag, of which the following is a full, clear, and exact description.

The present invention relates to new and useful improvements in hand bags, pocket books and the like.

It is one of the primary objects of the present invention to so construct a hand bag that the same will have a plurality of individual compartments.

It is a still further object of the invention to so construct a hand bag that certain of the compartments are accessible without opening the bag.

It is a still further object of the invention to so construct a hand bag that when the same is in open position all of the compartments are readily accessible.

With the above and other objects in view, reference is had to the accompanying drawings, in which Figure l is a perspective view of a hand bag constructed in accordance with the present invention;

Fig. 2 is a transverse sectional view thereof, taken on the line 2-2 of Fig. 3;

Fig. 3 is a top plan view of the bag in its open position, and

Fig. 4 is a transverse sectional view taken at right angles to Fig. 2, with the bag in its closed position.

Referring more particularly to the drawings, the reference character 5 designates a pair of frames, and said frames are hingedly secured together as indicated at 6. One of the frame members 5 is provided with an eye 7 and the other frame member is provided with a tongue 8 adapted to be received within the eye 7 to form a fastener for the bag when in closed position.

The reference character 10 designates the body of the bag and said body is preferably formed of a single piece of material. The material from which the bag body is formed is substantially circular in shape and is secured to each of the frame members 5 throughout a portion of their marginal edge as indicated by the reference character 12 in Fig. 1. That part of the frame members to which the body portion is secured is preferably the outer portion of each frame member, and when the body portion is secured as above described, there will be left two oppositely-disposed compartments 13, which compartments lie to the sides of the frame members 5 as shown.

Secured to each of the frame members 5 throughout its entire marginal edge, is a liningl, and these linings 14 are separate one from the other and form the two separate compartments, the frame members 5 forming the openings thereto.

When the bag is in its open position, it will be noted that the compartments 13 communicate one with the other beneath the hinge of the frame members 5, and these two compartments 13 are formed by a single lining 36, which extends from the unattached portions 20 of the material from which the body 10 is formed. As shown more clearly in Fig. 2, this last-mentioned lining, designated by the reference character 36, is secured to the marginal edge of.

each of the compartments 13, as indicated at 22, and extends from one side of the bag to the other. The reference characters 25 and 26 designate suitable toilet articles adapted to be carried within the compartments 13. These toilet articles are preferably connected to the bag by means of a chain or other flexible connection 30, and said flexible connection 30 extends through the space connecting the compartments 13 and beneath the hinge 6 of the frame members 5.

The bag is provided with a handle or the like 35, secured to the frame members 5 by ring fasteners or other suitable means.

From the foregoing it is apparent that the present invention provides a hand bag in which several compartments are had, and that certain of these compartments are. accessible either when the bag is in its closed or open position. By this construction compartments for toilet articles are provided, said compartments being so constructed that the toilet articles may be removed without necessitating an opening of other compartments of the bag, which latter mentioned compartments may contain more valuable articles.
