lie it known that I, J osArrIA'r CoUrUuE, a citizen of the Dominion of Canada, residing at Hull, in the county of Hull and Province of Quebec, Canada, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in \Vatch-Repair Boxes, of which the followin% is a specification.

his invention relates to a new system of filing, checking and keeping a permanent record of repairs on watches, jewelry and the like. The objects of the invention are to facilitate the inspection of a watch and record the exact repairs that have to be made, and the costs arising therefrom, and to store the movement of the watch separate from the case, or to store the defective part of the Watch or jewelry from the remainder, to keep an exact record of the name and address of the owner, the number of the case, the number of the movement, and all other data which applies to the watch or piece of jewelry then being examined, to provide a checking system whereby the owner of the Watch or other jewelry and the watchmaker will have counterfoils corresponding to a stub, which is permanently attached to an envelop or record which forms an original and exact record of the work that has been performed on the said watch.

It is also the object of this invention to have this original record filed after the work has been completed. and during the period in which the work is being performed, this record forms the tracer by means of which the watchmaker can at a moments notice identify and locate a particular piece of work.

To thoroughly explain the nature of my invention, I have illustrated an embodiment thereof which will now be explained, after which the novelty will be articularly pointed out in the appended c aims.

In the drawings, Figure 1 is a perspective view of a container or box, adapted to be used with my improved system.

Fig. 2 is a perspective view of the lid or cover of the box, one end of which is cut away.

Fig. 3 is a perspective view of the container or box when closed.

Fig. 4 is a plan view of the front of an envelop which is adapted to be used with the said box in carrying out my system.

Fig. 5 is a plan view of the back of the envelop.

Similar symbols indicate corresponding parts in the drawings. 7 In carrving out m" invention, I provide a box or container 1, which may be of any suitable sha e but preferably rectangular, having a central wall or division 2, thereby forming the box into two compartments 3 and 4. A lid or cover 5 is provided for the box and one of the ends 6 is cut away, while the side walls of the cover have arcuate rccesses 7. which permit of a finger and thumb grip being obtained on the box 1 when re moving the lid or cover.

I use with this box, an envelop 8 on the front of which a name line 9 of the owner of the watch is provided, the street address 10, cit Y 11, phone number 12. I also provide in ormation as to whether the completed work is to be mailed, delivered or called for as indicated at 13.

Below this, further provision is also made at 14 for the number of the movement and the number of the case of the watch.

The different sizes are indicated at 15, and at 16 an indication as to whether the watch is of a gold, silver or nickel case, while toward the bottom of the envelop as indicated at 17, a space is left to denote if the watch is of the bracelet type.

The flap 18 of the envelop, is formed with transversely extending perforations 19 and 20, allowing two portions to be detached from the flap, and the three portions of the flap and the body of the envelop have a serial number.

The endmost portion of the flap will have printed thereon an indication that it is a receipt of the watch delivered to the jeweler for repairs. and the second portion of the flap will be used as a watchmakers check, and have the price of the repairs indicated thereon.

On the back 21 of the envelop two vertical columns 22 are provided in which the price of the repairs to be done may be inserted. and at the opposite side of the back, an indication of the several parts of the watch that has been examined. and the noting of the defective parts are inserted.

It is pereferable that this column will consist of a word examine followed by the word repair, sell new watch, and then followed by an itemized list of the several parts of the watch, the column being completed by the words sell movement.

An indication of the number of jewels of the watch will be provided at the foot of the last said column.

On the permanent or undetached portion of the flap, an orifice 23 is provided, which will register when the flap is closed with an orifice 2a in the envelop.

My improved system of filing, checking and keeping a record of the work is as follows: When a customer desires to have a watch examined, the watchmaker takes an envelop 8, and box 1. The end portion 20 of the flap 18 of the envelop is removed and handed to the customer as a receipt or check for the watch left by him.

The second detachable portion of the flap forms the watchmakers check. Then the watch has been disassembled for examination purposes, the defective parts of the watch will be placed in one compartment of the box, say for instance the compartment l. The watch case and remainder of the watch which is intact will then be placed of the envelop the nature of the repairs which would require to be made to put the watch in good condition for use, and in the vertical column 22 he notes the price.

On receiving the work to be done, the watchmaker will have entered on the front of the envelop the name of the owner of the watch, his address, etc., shown on the front of the envelop.

If the customer wishes to call and find out what repairs will be necessary before instructing the watchmaker to proceed, the watchmaker places the envelop on the top of the box 1, with the flap hanging down over the end of the box. The lid 5 is now placed on the box, and the flap of the envelop with the serial number thereon is visible at the cut away end of the lid. The box may now be placed in any suitable cabinet, and when the owner calls, the watchmaker will be able to locate the box containing the customers property without any loss of time.

The customer will then be able to view the work which is necessary to be done, and know the exact cost thereof.

The box and envelop constitute a filing system during the repairing of the watch.

\Vhen the repairs have been effected the watch is removed from the box and placed in the envelop, and the box is available for use with other watches and with a different envelop. The envelop with the watch therein may be placed in a rack until called for,

or .until such time as the watch has to be ccptacle with a cover having a cut-away portion at one end, and an envelop provided with a plurality of flaps some of which are detachably connected and one of which is visible through the cut-away portion or the receptacle, the body of the envelop being concealed within the receptacle.

A watch repair outfit comprising a re ceptacle with a cover having a cut-away portion at one end, and an envelop provided with a plurality of flaps some of which are detachably connected and one of which is visible through the cutaway portion of the receptacle, the body of the envelop being concealed within the receptacle, said reccptacle being prmided with compartments and the receptacle and the envelop constituting a filing system. 7

3. In a device of the character stated, an identification envelop, having place for the address, and other data, and an orifice, said envelop having a flap with transversely extended perforations, to allow a plurality of portions to be detached, and the permanent portion of the flap having an orifice regis tering with the orifice of the envelop when the flap is closed.
