INSULATINGLPANE Specification of Letters Patent.-
Patented Mar. 8, 1921.
Application iiled January -18, 1919. Serial No. 270,830.
Tol all whom it may concern.'
Be it known that I, IVAN M. K1RLIN,a citizen of the United States, residing at Evanston, in the county of Cook and State of Illinois, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Insulating-Panes; and I do hereby declare the following to be a full, clear, and exact description of the invention, such as will enable others skilled in the art to which it appertains to make and use the l Same. v
'My invention has for its primary object to provide a transparent or translucent insulating pane for use in windows, doors, rerigerated display cases, refrigerators, ovens and the like.
To the above end, generally stated, the invention 'consists of the novel devices and combinations of devices hereinafter described and defined in the claim.
In the accompanying drawings, which illustrate'the inventlon, like characters indicate like parts throughout the several views.
Referring to the drawings,
Figure 1 is a lan view of a pane constrlcted in accor ance with my invention; an
Fig. 2 is a view. in section taken on the line 2-2 of Fig. 1. Y
The numeral 3 indicates a pair of laterally spaced plates 3, the edges of which are brought together and connected by fusing y or otherwise, as indicated at 4. These plates Y 3 may be madefrom glass, mica or other suitable transparent or translucent material, and the space therebetween may contain a vacuum, air or gas. It will, of course, be necessary to .hermetically seal the joint between the edges of the plates 3, when the space between said plates contains a vacuum or gas. To prevent the plates 3 from collapsing, when a vacuum is produced therebetween, a plurality of pins or projections are formed on the inner face of one of said plates and bear against the'inner face o1 the other of said plates. l
One of the plates 3 has formed at or near its edges an endless outwardly extended loop or beadl 6, for the purpose of'absorbing the expansion and con-traction of the plates, due to widely different temperatures on opposite sides of the pane.
What I claim is An insulating pane comprising la pair of Hat parallel plates of transparent or translucent material united at their edges, and an endless expansion bead in the body of one of the plates. v
IVAN M. KIRLIN.
