JOHN H. OSBORN, OF GUELPH, CANADA.
IMPROVEMENT IN TREADLES.
Specification forming part of Letters Patent No. B 3?,090, dated March 25, 1873.
To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that I, J OHN HADLEY OSBORN, of the town of Guelph, in the county of Wellin gton and Province of Ontario, Canada, have i'ivented certain Improvements in Treadles, of which the following is a specification My invention consists in suspending a treadle in such a manner that the foot-rest may be moved and held 'at different angles, enabling the operator to alter the position of his feet and bring into action several different sets of muscles, thereby resting some while others are at work. It will also accommodate either a tall or short person, the foot-rest being adj usted to suit.
Figure 1 is a front View of a sewing-machine table with my adjustable treadle attached. Fig. 2 is an end view of same with one of the legs removed.
A A are the legs or supports of the table B, in neither of which is there claimed any peculiarities. O is the foot-rest, Working on a rod passing through the bottom of the hangers D D, a pitman being, of course, attached to O in the usual way. The hangers D D are supported by the pins E E, and the thumbscrews F F are secured into the legs A A, passing through the slots in the hangers D D; thus the pinsE are pivots upon which the hangers D D can be pushed to and fro and held in any desired position by the thumb-screws F F. In order to alter the position of the foot-rest O the thumb-screws F F are slackened, when the hangers D D can be swung on the pivots E, and the foot-rest O adjusted in the position required, and secured there by screwing up the thumb-screws F F.
What I claim as my invention is-- The combination of the foot-rest C, hangers D D, pins or pivots E E, thumb-screws F F, and legs A A, forming an adjustable treadle,
substantially as and for the purpose hereinbefore described.
January 23, 1873.
J. H. OSBORN.
