To all whom it may concern: I

Be it known that I, Josnrn GOODMAN, a citizen of the United States, residing at Pittsburgh, in the county of Allegheny and State of Pennsylvania, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Lighting-FiXtures, of which the following is a specification.

This invention relates to lighting fixtures, and has for its object to provide a fixture for incandescent lamps, having means in a manner as hereinafter set forth whereby the shade for the lamp can be vertically adjusted to position the lamp at any desired point within the shade, and to further provide said fixture with means in a manner as hereinaifter referred to for coupling a lamp support to a shade hanger, the latter constituting a support for the reflector element of the fixture.

Further objects oi the invention are to provide a. lighting fixture for incandescent lan'ips which is simple in its construction and arrangement, strong, durable, ellicient and convenient in its use, ornamental, and comparatively inexpensive to manufacture.

In the drawing wherein like numeral reterences denote corresponding parts through out the several views Figure 1 is a vertical sectional view of a lighting fixture in accordance with this invention.

Fig. 2 is a like view, enlarged, with portions broken away, of the lamp support and shade or bowl hanger.

Fig. 3 is an inverted plan view of the lamp support and shade or bowl hanger.

Referring to the drawing in detail, 1 denotes the lower section or threaded nipple, to the lower end of which is secured the lamp socket 2. The upper section 3 comprises an ordinary pipe by which the fixture is attached to the ceiling of a room. The upper section 3 and the lower section 1 are secured together by the connector d, which is provided with the openings 5 for the entrance ot'the leading-in-wires 6 which ortend down through the nipple or lower sec tion 1 to the lamp socket 2.

The nipple 1 extends ahrough an opening 7 formed in the top of a lamp shade and reflector support 8 which is of invert-x ed yoke shape. The reflector and Shade support 8 has each of its arms, the lower end thereof, bent outwardly at right angles, providing lugs 9 which are formed with ppenings with the walls-thereof threaded. Engaging the threaded openings in the lugs 3 as well as extending therethrough, are adustmg screws 10.

An adjustable nut .11, mounted on the nipple 1 and adapted'to seat on top of the lamp shade and reflector support 1%, is provided for the-purpose of fixedly securing the lamp socket 2 in the lamp shade and reflector support 8.

The lighting fixture further includes a shade or bowl hanger consisting of an integrally formed stepped collar comprising an upper and a lower annulus 12 and 13, respectively, standing on edge. The annulus 12 has its top formed with an inwardly extending flange 141, and the annulus 13 has its top formed with the inwardly extending flange 15. The annulus 12 is of less diameter than the annulus 13, and the flange 15 of the latter is formed integral with the bottom of the annulus 12. The flange 15 forms the support for a reflector 16, which has its lower end seated thereon. The flange 14 is provided with the slots 17 for the passage of the lugs 9 when assembling the lamp shade and reflector support 8 with the shade or bowl hanger.

The annulus 1-3 is formed with a series of threaded openings 18, which are adapted to engage the threaded ends 19 of the hanger arms 20. The hanger arms 20 are disposed at right angles with respect to the annulus 13, and are securely, though 'detachably, locked thereon by means of the nuts 21 on the threaded ends 19 on the inner face of the annulus 13. The outer end of each of the hanger arms 20 is formed with the loop 22, carrying a link 23.

The shade or bowl 2 1 is suspended from the arms 20 by the hook rosettes 25 which respectively engage the links 23 on the outer end of the arms 20. The rosettes 25 are securely mounted in the shade 24 by the nuts 26. The connection between the arms 20 and the shade 2d is a detachable one so that the shade or bowl may be conveniently atcached or detached as desired.

The reflector 16 is constructed of any suitable material, as well as contour, and preferably has its lower end formed with an inwardly extending flange 27 which is seated on the flange 15 of the bowl hanger.
