or DAVENPORT, IOWA.
STOCK-LIFT.
Application filed April 9,
To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that I, ORIN E. I'IATCH, a citizen of the United States, and a resident of Davenport, in the county of Scott and State of Iowa, have invented a new and Improved Stocl -Lift, of which the following is a full, clear, and exact description.
This invention relates to improvements in stock lifts, an object of the invention being to provide a stock lift which is readily portable so that it can be set up at any place desired and conveniently operated to lift and support an animal.
A further object isto provide an improved construction of hammock or swing with an improved frame supporting and guiding the same and provide levers at the corners of the frame which can be conveniently manipulated to give the swing or hammock any desired elevation.
With these and other objects in view the invention consists in certain novel features of construction, and combinations and arrangements of parts, as will be more fully hereinafter described and pointed out in the claims.
In the accompanying drawings- Figure 1 is a view in side elevation illustrating my invention;
Fig. 2 is an end view partly broken away; and i Fig. 3 is a fragmentary detail viewillustrating the support for one end of one of the sling rods.
A represents the frame of my improved apparatus which is of general rectangular form having at its corners four uprights B, these uprights being connected by longitudinal bars 1 and transverse bars 2 and strengthened at the corners by braces 3. The several members of my improved frame are preferably connected by removable bolts 5 and all of the said members are made with a plurality of bolt openings 6 to permit an ad justment of the frame so as to allow the same to be built up in various sizes to suit conditions.
The uprights B each comprise two parallel vertical bars 7, 7, having spacing blocks 8 at their ends, whereby a longitudinal slot 9 is formed in the upright B. Supporting brackets 10 are secured to the outer faces of the bars 7 7, and while the series of brackets on the bars are spaced an equal distance apart, the brackets on one pair have a staggered relation to the brackets on the Specification of Letters Patent. Patented Jan. 18 1921 1920. Serial No. 372,538.
otherpair for a purpose which will herein after appear.
The slots 9 of the uprights B are adapted rods 11 and are connected attheir free ends by buckles or other securing devices 13 with straps 1a secured to the other rod 11. These series-of straps or bandsLare adapted to be passed under the body of the animal D and they may be arranged in any desired number and adjusted by means of the buckles 13 to nicely fit the body of the animal treated. In addition to the straps 12, I provide a front strap 12 which extends around the breast of the animal and a rear straa 12 which extends back of the rear legs. r hese straps l2 and 12 are connected by longitudinal straps 12 which extend between the legs of the animal and are secured to the body supporting straps 12.
To move the sling vertically I provide four levers 15, one of which is shown in detail in Fig. 3. These levers have angular ends 16 and are adapted to be sup oorted upon the brackets 10 of the uprights As the brackets 10 of the two pairs of uprights have a staggered relationship, the levers 15 can be operated utilizing as a fulcrum first a bracket on one side ofthe slot 9 and then a bracket on the other side of the slot with the rod 11 supported on the angular end 16 of the lever, so that the end of the rod can be adjusted vertically and supported by the lever in any position of adjustment.
It is, of course, possible for a single operator to adjust the ends of the rods in turn, but it is, of course, advisable to provide several operators who will simultaneously opcrate the levers 15 so that the animal can be moved vertically and maintained in a horizontal position.
lVith an apparatus such as above described, the animal can be supported with his feet oil the ground and hence, can be described without departing from the invention, and hence I do not limit myself to the precise details set forth, but consider myself at liberty to make such changes and alterations as fairly fall within the spirit levers supporting the ends of the rods and :movable on said devices, whereby the ful- 15,
cruming of said levers on alternate devices I operates to raise and lower the sling.
2. An apparatus of the character stated, comprising a frame, longitudinally slotted uprights at the corners of the frame, a sling having a pair of rods projected through the slots of the uprights, brackets on the uprights at the opposite sides of the slots having staggered relationship to each other, and levers supporting the ends of the rods and movably mounted on said brackets.
3. An apparatus of the character stated, comprising a frame, a sling comprising parallel normally horizontal rods, a relatively long series of relatively narrow straps connecting the rods and adapted to be positioned under and around the front and rear portions of an animal, a plurality of vertical series of brackets on the frame, the brackets of adjacent series having staggered relationship, and levers supporting the rods and movable from one pair of brackets to another to move the slim vertically.
